    All Army families and residents, living in Panagoda and Kendalanda Army housing complex have now access to a renovated super market stall to buy their daily provisions.   • Cornerstone-Laying Ceremony on Tuesday (22); North Western Province Dependent War Heroes to Move Into Their Own 'Abimansala' Soon


    Ground-breaking and cornerstone-laying ceremony of the Army’s proposed third wellness resort, ‘Abimansala - 3’ under the ‘Brave Hearts’ project of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) for 50 dependent War Heroes of the North Western Province, takes place on Tuesday (22) at Pangolla in Ibbagamuwa Divisional Secretariat area. Around 300 War Heroes, most of them in their prime youth, sustained multiple injuries during humanitarian operations and became totally disable or dependent. They are in need of 24-hour surveillance throughout the rest of their life-span....
  • 221 Brigade's Timely Action Averts Disaster


    Troops serving the 221 Brigade in Trincomalee under the 22 Division of the Security Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E), jumped into action and prevented the Ottachchikulam tank bund, being washed away due to torrential rains and floods. 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) troops repaired the threatened embankment of the tank and prevented it from piercing using sand bags and gravel. Timely action averted a massive disaster by doing so on the directions of the 221 Brigade Commander.    
  • New Army Service Centre at Punani Opened

    Directorate of Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (DEME) at Army Headquarters added one more technically modern new service center to the Eastern province as per the directions of The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. The Army following directions of the Commander began erecting service centers in island-wide Army formations, enabling all Army vehicles to undergo repairs and servicing, thereby reducing expenditure incurring for this purpose.

  • SFHQ-KLN English Improvement Programme for Students Continues


    More than 400 students, belonging to schools in Kilinochchi district, as part of the ongoing project for improvement of English language knowledge, took part in a workshop at Kallaru Madhya Maha Vidyalaya during two days (Jan 16-17). The initiative taken by the Security Forces Headquarters-Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) in this direction has already been introduced several months ago with conduct of many such workshops for the same purpose.
  • Previous Year's Sports Skills Recognized in Army 'Colours Night'

    The Army’s magnificent spectacle, Colours Night - 2012 that recognizes unmatched sports talents of Army personnel at both national and international levels, got underway Monday (21) evening at Musaeus College auditorium. The colourful ceremony with dancing and singing performances kicked off after distinguished guests lit the traditional oil lamp and recited the Army song. Mr Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary to HE the President graced the event as the Chief Guest.

    The first birth anniversary of the Army’s newest seat of scholarship, the Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) at Buttala was marked in a fitting ceremony on Wednesday (January 16) with the inauguration of its first-ever mammoth seminar that discusses ‘Challenges and Prospects of Deployment of Security Forces in Post-Conflict Nation Building in View of National Security Priorities as Against Publicity’ for two consecutive days.

  • Congregation Touring Mullaittivu Meets Mullaittivu SF Commander


    A congregation of clergy, touring Mullaittivu area, including Bishop of Colombo recently called on at the Security Forces Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) at the invitation of Major General L.B.R Mark, Commander, SFHQ-MLT. During the meet, Major General Mark outlined the series of multiple development roles, being conducted in the province by the troops for promotion of living conditions of the civilians to the visiting members of the congregation.
  • Diaspora Reps Meet Kilinochchi Commander Before Re-opening 'Sencholai' Orphanage


    Completely-renovated ‘Sencholai’ Children’s Care Centre at Kilinochchi was re-opened on Sunday (20) during a brief ceremony. A representative Diaspora gathering from Canada, Australia, Germany, South Africa and the United Kingdom who sponsored the reconstruction of this Centre for orphaned children attended the reopening ceremony, together with Major General Udaya Perera.....
