Troops serving the 221 Brigade in Trincomalee under the 22 Division of the Security Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E), jumped into action and prevented the Ottachchikulam tank bund, being washed away due to torrential rains and floods.
6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) troops repaired the threatened embankment of the tank and prevented it from piercing using sand bags and gravel.
Timely action averted a massive disaster by doing so on the directions of the 221 Brigade Commander.
Meanwhile, SFHQ-E on account of Thaipongal day assisted conduct of special Poojas at Koneshwaram Kovil, Salli Kovil and Kaliamman Kovil in Trincomalee area. On the same day troops of the 2 (V) Gajaba Regiment of the 221 Brigade treated children at Sardha’s Children’s Home at Trincomalee in connection with the Thaipongal day.
