    Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army, who played a pivotal role in their efforts to rescue thousands of tsunami victims in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, continue to receive more commendations from different segments of the civil society for their tireless and risky contribution even at the risk of their own lives.
  • UN resolutions ignored and LTTE child conscription continues

    Barely a couple of hours after the UN Security Council called on the LTTE to renounce its continued conscription of children as LTTE soldiers, an irate mother of a seventeen-year old Tamil girl has assisted troops at the MUHAMALAI Entry/Exit point in order to rescue her child from LTTE grips while her daughter was being abducted on 25 February 2005 around 1.15 p.m.

    In his second visit to the tsunami-affected Matara area on Sunday (06), Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General S.H.S.Kottegoda looked into the requirements of the victims, connected to families of the Army, Armed Forces and other civilians.

    Five LTTE cadres, including the LTTE political leader for AMPARA and BATTICALOA, KAUSHALYAN and a former Member of Parliament for THIRUKKOVIL were among those who died following a surprise attack on Monday (07) night while they were travelling in the general area of NAMALGAMA, PULLAIRADI between 104th and 105th Milepost on the road to BATTICALOA.
  • SECOND COURSE ON -œGOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT OF DEFENCE- BEGINS

    A fortnight-long study course on “Governance and Management of Defence,” sponsored by British High Commission in Sri Lanka is now on at Hotel Galadari, Colombo. This is conducted in Sri Lanka for the second time after two years of its first one. It commenced on 07th February 2005and will go on for two weeks.
