The Sri Lanka Army Condemns LTTE\'s Brutal Murder of Hindu Priest at Batticaloa

The Sri Lanka Army condemns the brutal assassination of the Head Priest at Sandiveli Pullair Kovil (Hindu temple) in Batticaloa Venerable Selliah Parameshwaran (63) by a marauding gang of Tiger terrorists late last night (7).

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka in response to media queries on the assassination maintains that desperate terrorists chased away from Verugal and Vakare areas after their infiltration into Thoppigala jungle patches are directly responsible for this heinous crime and a number of other random terrorist attacks launched recently in the east.

This barbaric and gruesome act of terrorism, perpetrated on a holy priest of the Tamil community with no regard to the values of humanity, once again clearly reinforces the need to have Hindu devotees as well as all Tamil civilians in the east liberated from the horrendous clutches of Tiger terrorism that has affected all the fabric of our civil society across the country. The Army, as done in the recent past, is determined to ensure security of the civilians in the east, forcing those terrorists to face the consequences of this barbaric act and continuing terror, the Commander opined.

While denouncing non-ending LTTE terror objectives in the strongest possible terms, the Army Commander reiterates his commitment to rid the whole of eastern province of terrorism in the near future, and creation of conducive violence-free environment which in turn facilitates the smooth co-existence and harmonious life for all peace-loving people, irrespective of their ethnic and religious differences.
