    Ambassador for Switzerland, Mr. Barnosn Nadino Ragasonu and Adviser to the Embassy Mr. Martin Souizincer during a recent two-day visit to the Jaffna peninsula visited de-mining sites in Puttur and exchanged views with officials from Non Governmental Organizations at the office of the Jaffna District Secretary.

    Nearly eighty small children of Army personnel during the weekend adorned the corridors at Sujatha Girls' College, Matara throwing a musical treat, “Sambuddhopadhana Bethi Gee Saraniya – 2005, ” to over 500 tsunami-affected children and their caretakers.
  • Thelippalai Cancer Institute on the road to resurrection

    A section of the newly renovated Ponnambalam Memorial Cancer Institute at Thelippalai, Jaffna with participation of hundreds of soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army was formally handed over to health authorities on 01st June 2005, enabling them to resume its function shortly for the benefit of Cancer patients in the peninsula.
  • Troops transport hundreds of needy patients to medical clinic

    Over 8000 civilians belonging to some 2000 families from Ushan,Thawsikulam, Ketpeli, Palavi, Miriyankadu, Vidattapalai, Pothpathy, Kudattane and Nadakudattene villages under nine Grama Sevaka sectors in Jaffna recently queued up at Ketpeli Primary School and Pothpathy Roman Catholic church premises to receive medical attention from a specially flown group of doctors attached to Colombo Military Hospital.

    President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge as Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse paying a glittering tribute to War Heroes of the Armed Forces and the Police in the state function at Mailapitiya Rana Viru Memorial Park, Tuesday to coincide with the National War Heroes Day (June 07) assured that she would not betray the Motherland, and instead protect it even at the risk of her own life.
  • Welioya Camp gets new buildings

    Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shantha Kottegoda was recently at Welioya Army camp on the invitation of Major General P.S.B.Kulathunge, Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni) where he declared open a new building complex for the use of soldiers serving there.
  • UN PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS TRAINING BEGINS

    Kukuleganga, the homestead of legendary warrior, Veediya Bandara alias Prince Vedaya in the Kotte period of this island-nation repeats its history today (June 12, 2004) when the Sri Lanka Army, for the first time in Sri Lanka, ceremonially opens its Institute of Peace Support Operations Training in Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL), meant to improve interoperablility of the troops and enhance their ability to perform peace-keeping and humanitarian assistance missions.

  • US ARMY PACIFIC HEAD MEETS ARMY COMMANDER

    Commanding General, US Army Pacific Command (USARPAC) Lieutenant General James L Campbell, who is now in Sri Lanka to attend the inauguration of the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training in Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) called on the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lt. Gen L. P Balagalle at his office on Thursday (10) afternoon.
