US ARMY PACIFIC HEAD MEETS ARMY COMMANDER

Commanding General, US Army Pacific Command (USARPAC) Lieutenant General James L Campbell, who is now in Sri Lanka to attend the inauguration of the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training in Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) called on the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lt. Gen L. P Balagalle at his office on Thursday (10) afternoon.

The visiting delegate on arrival at the Army Headquarters was accorded a Guard of Honour by soldiers of the Gemunu Watch, preceded by a Guard Turn-out held in his honour.

During this cordial meet at Army Headquarters, both military leaders discussed matters of mutual concern and exchanged views on the newly established IPSOTSL and its related training programmes.

To signify this memorable meet and goodwill, both Lt. Gen Balagalle and Lt. Gen James L Campbell exchanged mementoes, and later Lt. Gen Campbell placed his signature on the VIP book at Commander's office before the US envoy took leave of the Army Headquarters.

Lt. General Jim Campbell assumed his present position Nov, 4, 2002. He was born at Fort Benning, Georgia on Aug, 16, 1949. Upon completion of the Reserve Officer's Training Corps Program at the University of Missouri he was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Infantry.

General Campbell completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1971. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Physical Education from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. His military education includes completion of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses: Airborne, Jumpmaster, and Air Assault schools; the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; and the Naval War College.

General Campbell has held a variety of command and staff positions, including; Commanding General, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum New York; Assistant Division Commander (Operations) and Assistant Division Commander (Support), 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Commander Joint Task-Force Full Accounting, Camp Smith, Hawaii; Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, Army; Chief of Staff and Commander, 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York; Deputy Chief of Staff, 1 Corps, ACofS, G3, 9th Infantry Division (Motorized), Fort Lewis, Washington; and Commander 4th BN, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

General Campbell has served as Rifle Platoon Leader, Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, Anti-tank Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the 2d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Company Commander in the 1st Battalion, 32d Infantry, 2d Infantry Division, Camp Casey Korea, and in the 15th Battalion, 4th Combat Support Training Brigade, Fort Jackson, south Carolina; and as the Director of Instruction, Department of Physical Education, United States Military Academy. While with the 10th Mountain Division, he served as the Commander of the United Nations Quick Reaction Force in Somalia, as the Director of the Multinational Force Staff in Haiti and the Commander of Multinational Division (North) in Bosnia.
