    Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L. P Balagalle after an illustrious career of nearly forty years of military service in the Sri Lanka Army relinquishes his duties as the 16th Commander of the Army on 30 June 2004. In his formal farewell speech delivered on Monday (28) afternoon at the Army Headquarters, retiring Lt. Gen Balagalle commended all his Senior Officers for the remarkable and marvellous cooperation extended to him during his tenure of office.

  • Major General DVSY Kulatunge Appointed To Overlook As DCoS

    MAJOR GENERAL DVSY KULATUNGE RSP USP ndc psc, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces (SLAVF) has been appointed by the Commander of the Army to overlook duties of the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), who was killed in the suicidal bomb explosion on Monday (26). In addition to the office of the DCoS, Major General Kulatunge is to overlook duties as Adjutant General until further notice.
  • New CDS Reviews Security In Jaffna

    THE NEWLY APPOINTED Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, in the company of Major General N. Mallawaarachchi, Chief of Staff of the Army, was in Jaffna on Monday (26) on a fact-finding mission vis a vis security measures in the peninsula. The visiting military team at Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna held a brief discussion with Divisional Commanders of 51 and 52 Divisions, Rear Admiral J.H.U. Ranaweera, Naval Commander for North, Mr. H.M.B. Ambanwela, Deputy Inspector General of the Police and other Senior Officers with a view to taking stock of security developments.

    MANNAR: ADVANCING ARMY TROOPS, now at the forefront of dominating terrorist-held un-cleared areas in the northern MANNAR sector gained further territory today (26) after capturing one segment of the ANDANKULAM - VIDATTALATIVU road amidst heavy resistance of the retreating Tiger terrorists.
  • MORE OFFICERS FROM SLMA PASS OUT

    They were subsequently to join different regiments and battalions of the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force and Volunteer Force. In addition, two Officer Cadets from Bangladesh, who also received their training at the SLMA also passed out on the same occasion while their High Commissioner for Sri Lanka looked on. They are to leave for their motherland to join Bangladesh Security Forces after this graduation.
