  • Ranaviru Lt Col Muthaliff bids adieu to his motherland amidst military honours

    Commanding Officer, 1 st Regiment Sri Lanka Military Intelligence Corps Lieutenant Colonel T. N. Muthaliff RWP slain in LTTE gunfire on Tuesday (31), made his final journey to the burial grounds at Dehiwala Muhaideen Grand Jumma mosque for Janaza Wednesday (01) morning where his remains were laid to rest in conformity with Islamic traditions. Gun salute followed the full military honours accorded to his memory at the mosque premises.

    Lieutenant Colonel T. N. Muthaliff RWP (O/60727) of the first Regiment, Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) who died Tuesday (31) morning following an LTTE terrorist attack was an exemplary Officer who served the Sri Lanka Army in order to defend Sri Lanka's unitary state and territorial integrity at the risk of his own life, states the Special Part I Order released by Colonel of the Regiment Major General H K G Hendawitharana on behalf of Commander of the Army Lt. General Shantha Kottegoda.
  • Military Christian fellowship on its duty for tsunami victims

    Military Christian Fellowship and Army Christian Fellowship in collaboration with Army Seva Vanitha Unit was to donate cash to the value of Rs 5000 /= and a packet of dry rations to each family of widows and orphans of the Army affected by the tsunami.
  • Some LTTE requests accommodated but not all

    Security Forces Authorities, after considering a few LTTE requests for facilitation of their cadres in the government controlled areas have positively responded and acceded to three of these requests but not to two other ones due to prevailing unstable security situation in the east.

    The Commander of the Army has approved the cessation of appointments / attachments and new appointments / attachments of the under mentioned Senior Officers with effect from dates stated against their names.
  • STAGE SET FOR UN MPE-3 AT KUKULEGANGA

    As the stage is now set for the inauguration of the mammoth first-ever Multinational Platoon Exercise (MPE-3) alias \' Sama Gamana\' of the Army at Kukuleganga Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOTSL) on 12th June 2004, foreign observers from Australia, Bhutan, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Thailand and United Kingdom have already confirmed their presence for the occasion, so said Brigadier Srinath Rajapakse, Director of Training at Army Headquarters at a Press Conference held on Thursday (3rd June).
  • Talduwa Rally Cross in August

    Motor Sports fever among soldiers is fast on the increase and this time it is the Talduwa Rally Cross, organized by Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee in association with Motor Racing Association and Sri Lanka Racing Riders Association. The grand event will be held between 21-22 August 2004 at Talduwa Kelani Valley Club premises at Avisawella for the fourth successive year, it was announced at a Press briefing at Regimental Headquarters, Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers on Wednesday (28) afternoon.
  • Anuradhapura Victory Hospital Receives Donation

    A GROUP OF PATRIOTIC people in Horana area headed by Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake, son of Hon Prime Minister, donated a large stock of necessary items to Victory Army hospital in Anuradhapura last week. Essential items for daily personal to be distributed among hospital inmates, biscuits and milk powder were some of the items delivered to the hospital. The donation was handed over by Mr. Wickramanayake to Major General A.S.M. Zaheer, Commander Forward Maintenance Area – North central on behalf of Commander Security Forces – Wanni Major General Jagath Jayasuriya.
  • Army Commander Reviews Security Situation in Yala

    COMMANDER OF THE ARMY Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, accompanied by a few Senior Officers of the Army Headquarters, flew to Yala Saturday (28) morning in a bid to review the security situation in the area.
