Lieutenant Colonel T. N. Muthaliff RWP (O/60727) of the first Regiment, Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) who died Tuesday (31) morning following an LTTE terrorist attack was an exemplary Officer who served the Sri Lanka Army in order to defend Sri Lanka's unitary state and territorial integrity at the risk of his own life, states the Special Part I Order released by Colonel of the Regiment Major General H K G Hendawitharana on behalf of Commander of the Army Lt. General Shantha Kottegoda.
Major T. N Muthaliff was posthumously promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after he was felled by LTTE gunmen on motorbike. Here is the full text of the Special Part I Order of the Army issued today
“It is with profound regret we, Colonel of the Regiment and all Other Ranks record the sudden demise of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel T. N. Muthaliff RWP first Regiment, Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps following an LTTE attack at Polhengoda on Tuesday morning.
Born in 1966, he studied at D S Senanayake College, Colombo – 08 and joined the Sri Lanka Army on 02nd June 1986 as a cadet officer (Regular Force) in order to contribute towards the national effort, launched to defend unitary state of his motherland. After his training both at Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyatalawa and Defence College in Pakistan he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant and posted to the 04th Gemunu Watch.
During most of his career, he served in operational areas effectively until he was promoted to the rank of Captain on 02nd June 1992. This Officer who has been a fearless warrior and a tower of strength to his fellow soldiers, has secured many achievements in the face of enemy threats.
In recognition of his valiant commitment to the cause, prestigious Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) was conferred on him in addition to several other gallantry and service medals. He also followed several professional courses both here and abroad.
His selfless dedication for defence of his motherland until last moment of his life would no doubt go in the history as a true Son of the Soil who safeguarded territorial integrity of the country. His loss is an irreparable loss to his beloved wife, children, parents, bothers and sisters, our Regiment, the Army, our country and to all those who are peace-loving.
Our Regiment takes this opportunity to pay our highest tribute to this exemplary Officer who has fought against terrorism for the greater benefit of all Sri Lankans and all those who are yet to be born.
His funeral with full military honours will take place at Muslim burial grounds at Dehiwala on 01 June 2005 at 8.30 in the morning. May Allah Bless You. !â€
