Military Christian fellowship on its duty for tsunami victims

Military Christian Fellowship and Army Christian Fellowship in collaboration with Army Seva Vanitha Unit was to donate cash to the value of Rs 5000 /= and a packet of dry rations to each family of widows and orphans of the Army affected by the tsunami.

The president, Seva Vanitha Mrs Soniya Kottegoda and the chairman Army Christian Fellowship Major General U.B.L Fernando at a brief ceremony that got underway during the weekend gave away those donations to seven more affected families as part of the second lap of the programme.

These families will continue to get Rs 5000/= each for a period of six months until they get their compensations from the Army and pension payments on behalf of the victims. The chairman and members of the Army Christian fellowship, the secretary and members of Military Christian fellowship, and presidents of Regimental Ladies clubs were there to witness the occasion.

The Military Christian Fellowship, Army Christian Fellowship and the Army Seva Vanitha unit, have jointly launched this initiative on 29th April 2005 as the first stage of the programme among 30 families to begin with.

Chairman Military Christian Fellowship, Major General LCR Gunawardena (Retd), former Chief of Staff of the Army and Representative of the Association of Christian Conference and Training Services (ACCTS), Colonel Don Snow was instrumental in sourcing the funds needed to make this donation possible.
