    An anthology of gripping narratives, ‘Kisi Vitekath Sathurata Yatath Novena Ma’ (I who would not dare to give in to the enemy), a novel that speaks of heroic saga of the Special Forces (SF) in the Army was released Wednesday (12) morning during a special ceremony at Waters Edge Hotel, Battaramulla. The dramatic chain of those narratives in the book as retold by both SF officers and soldiers alike to its editor, Brigadier H Ranasinghe, SF Brigade Commander.....
     
  • All Ranks' Fellowship Dinner Culminates Army Day & Anniversary Celebrations

     
    The sense of comradeship, fellowship and collective consciousness among comrades-in-arms in the Army, received a heartening fillip on Monday (10) evening at Panagoda Army cantonment when a representative regimental gathering of thousands of soldiers met together with their Army Chief over a sumptuous dinner, a feature that has been introduced to the Army anniversary arrangements after Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, assumed office two years ago.

    The countdown to the final socializing event, ‘Army Dance’ to be held on 15 October 2011 as the last leg of the Army 62nd anniversary celebrations after absence of more than 20 years has begun.   • High Level Chinese PLA Delegation Offers Increased Opportunities for Sri Lanka Army


    A high-level delegation of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of the People’s Republic of China, the world’s largest military force, called on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Thursday (13) morning at Army Headquarters. The six-member Chinese delegation headed by Major General Qian Lihua, Chief of Foreign Affairs Office, Ministry of National Defence was accompanied to the Commander of the Army by Her Excellency, Ms Yang Xiuping, Ambassador for People’s Republic of China.

  • 563 Brigade Troops in Shramadana Link New Road with Kokeliya

     
    Troops serving 563 Brigade under 56 Division with the support of the public living in Kokeliya recently launched a Shramdana campaign and opened up a new motorable road between Kokeliya and Pudiyasinnakulam.   • 22 Division Marks Army Day with Tree Planting

     
    To coincide with the 62nd Army anniversary and Army Day, the 22 Division Headquarters in Trincomalee launched a tree-planting campaign in their camp premises and outside pathways on 10th October with the participation of hundreds of troops. Brigadier D. Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division inaugurated the programme after planting a few coconut and jak saplings in the 22 Division Headquarters premises.
     
  • On Army Day SFHQ-J Visits Soldiers in Hospital

     
    Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) marked the Army Day and 62nd anniversary at a separate ceremony held at the SFHQ-J premises on Monday (10). Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ-J spoke to the gathering of officers and other ranks and appealed them to work harder for the betterment of Jaffna civilians not as a fighting force any longer but as a protective force.
     
  • Community Projects Launched to Commemorate Army Anniversary

     
    51 Division troops in Kopay under Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Army Day (October 10) conducted a series of community-oriented projects in several areas. Distribution of dry rations to the needy, provision of meals to elders at an Elders’ Home, donation of blood, conduct of Shramadana at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, garbage clearing programmes, etc were among some of the major projects carried out by those troops to coincide with the 62nd Army anniversary.
