Rear Admiral Pujitha Vithana USP ndu, Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Thursday (9) afternoon paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage at the Army Headquarters. During cordial interactions, the visiting Senior Navy Officer briefed the Commander of the Army on how the Sri Lanka Coast Guard performs its duties to ensure the security, safety and serenity of the maritime environment whilst enforcing the law at sea as an agency, committed towards the sustainable management and development of maritime resources.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army on compassionate grounds responded to an appeal of an Anamaduwa-based father whose 10-year-old Thalassemia-affected son were to undergo an urgent bone marrow surgery, and contributed a sum of Rs. 100,000.00 to the family on Saturday (March 04). The child studying in Grade 05 has been suffering from Thalassemia since 2018 and has been advised to undergo this transplant surgery at the earliest.

Colpetty-based Mahanama College, together with its Old Boys' Association, Principal, former Principals and teachers in a fitting ceremony felicitated one of its most distinguished old boys, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and three other most Senior Officers of the armed forces after inviting all four of them to their alma mater premises on Thursday (2). The felicitation ceremony commenced soon after the day’s Chief Guest, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, together with his old Tri-Service colleagues and classmates who were also the day's laureates in the ceremony arrived there to be warmly welcomed by the Principal, Mr. A.M.A.A.C Perera.

The 14th contingent of the Sri Lanka Force Protection Company (SLFPC) in the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) left for Lebanon early this morning on Thursday (02) amidst greetings and best wishes. The 14th SLFPC contingent, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel D.P.I.T Kaluaggala and 2nd in Command, Major W.M.C.K Wanninayake is composed of 125 Army personnel, including 10 Officers and 115 Other Ranks and four sniffer dogs, ‘Frank’ - (German Shepherd), Jupiter’ (Golden Retriever), ‘Tiger’ (German Shepherd) and Leena’ (German Shepherd) who have been well-trained for detection of narcotics, explosives and mines.

The Directorate of Media at Army HQ, keeping pace with dissemination of digitalized information to all ground troops across the country launched its first trilingual E-news bulletin, 'Yuda Hamuda Desathiya' edition on Wednesday (March 1) at the Army HQ during a brief ceremony, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army. The fortnight bulletin of Sinhala, Tamil and English language versions is transmitted to all ground troops through respective Commanding Officers of all island-wide formations and made available on mobile phones of all serving the Army and the retired.

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) expanding its welfare role, further awarded 140 scholarships for children of fallen War Heroes, serving and retired Army personnel and civil staff in the Army in collaboration with the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) during a simple ceremony, held this morning (March 1) at the Army Headquarters. The 13th contingent of the Sri Lanka Force Protection Company (SLFPC) in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) returned to the island today (1 March) upon completion of their service tenure in the UNIFIL. During the first phase, one Officer and 89 Other Ranks returned to the island today (1) and the remaining group is expected to return after the 14th SLFPC, set to leave for Lebanon on Thursday (2), undertakes responsibilities in a few days.

After completing more than 35 years of unblemished service in the Army, the Senior Officer on the verge of retirement received sincere compliments and best wishes from the Army Chief during the brief meeting. The Commander of the Army commended his dedicated services and appreciated his commitment to the organization, recalling a couple of memorable instances during combat operations.

The mortal remains of Mali-based UN Peacekeeper of the Sri Lanka Army who recently died of a cardiac arrest while serving the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) were brought to the island on Wednesday (22 February) afternoon. 6 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (6 SLASC) troops of his own Regiment received the coffin of late Lance Corporal M.G.L Deshapriya (42) in a military parade. At the Colombo International Airport, the UN flag-draped coffin was symbolically delivered by Lieutenant Colonel H.M.W.R Herath, Supply and Transport Officer of Mali-based 4th Combat Convoy Company (CCC) to Major General Hirosha Wanigasekara, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and Master General Ordnance who represented the Commander of the Army.
