Retiring Major General Lalith Herath’s Service to the Army Hailed

The retiring Major General H.M.L.D Herath RSP VSV USP psc of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), the Chief Signal Officer (CSO) and Colonel Commandant of SLSC on invitation arrived at the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage on Friday (Feb 24), together with his spouse.

After completing more than 35 years of unblemished service in the Army, the Senior Officer on the verge of retirement received sincere compliments and best wishes from the Army Chief during the brief meeting. The Commander of the Army commended his dedicated services and appreciated his commitment to the organization, recalling a couple of memorable instances during combat operations.

Major General H.M.L.D Herath RSP VSV USP psc also in turn thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and guidance while mentioning the encouragement he received during his tenure of service in the organization.

Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the outgoing retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to his spouse. Major General H.M.L.D Herath RSP VSV USP psc, the retiring Colonel Commandant of SLSC also reciprocated by presenting a memento to the Army Chief.

Major General H.M.L.D Herath RSP VSV USP psc enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 06 October 1988 and underwent basic military training at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University - Ratmalana and Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa in the Intake 32B before he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Signal Corps. He was promoted to the rank of Major General on 02 August 2021.

He has been holding the office of the Chief Signal Officer at Army Headquarters, and Colonel Commandant of SLSC at the time of his retirement.

For his bravery and gallantry in the battlefield, he has been awarded the ‘Rana Sura Padakkama’.

He also held the appointments of Troop Commander, Officer Instructor, Sri Lanka Military Academy, General Staff Officer 1 (Communication), Office of the Chief Signal Officer, Army Headquarters, Officiating Commandant, Signal Base Workshop, Commanding Officer, 3 and 10 Regiments of SLSC, Staff Officer 1 (Administration), Regimental Centre, SLSC, Directing Staff, Defence Services Command and Staff College, Director Academics, Sri Lanka Military Academy, Commander, 641 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier (Coordinating), Defence Services Command and Staff College, Commander, Signal Brigade, and Deputy Commandant, Defence Services Command and Staff College.

During his service period, he has undergone many local and overseas courses including, Platoon Commanders’ TAC Course, Battalion Support Weapon Course, Infantry Training Centre, Minneriya, Army Command and Staff Course, Defence Services Command and Staff College, Signal Young Officers’ Course, India, Mortar Locating Radar Course, China, Procurement of Mortar Locating Radar Course, United States of America, Mid-Career Course, Pakistan, and Advance Training Program for Talents from Maritime Silk Road Countries, China.
