  • Land Area in Palaly Cantonment to be Reduced, Enabling Civilians to Return


    On the directives of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ - J) is to shortly release another 350 acres of land that was hitherto used by the Palaly Army Camp. On Friday (8), a large group of civilians, awaiting to return to their lands in the Thondamanaru West area arrived at the Palaly Camp area.....

  • A Team of US Undergrads Tour Kilinochchi


    A group of undergraduates from the University of Davidson, US, now in Sri Lanka on a familiarization tour, met Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ- KLN) on Saturday (9) in order to learn more about the Army’s roles towards re-development of the province.


  • 211 Brigade is 29 Years Old


    Wanni-based 211 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) in Vavuniya marked its 29th Anniversary recently with a series of commemorative events, including religious ceremonies. Lighting of the traditional oil lamp, all rank tea table and lunch treat and ‘Bodhi Pooja’ dominated the first day’s programme.

    682 Brigade under the 68 Division of the Security Forces Headquarters – Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) continuing its community services handed over keys of a newly-constructed house to another homeless widow with three children in  Puthukuduirippu, Maligathivu area on Sunday (10).   • Army-Produced World Class Wushu Player & His Coach Fêted


    Achievements of the world-class Wushu player, Lance Corporal W.L Gunasekara of 12 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) who secured a bronze medal at the recent 12th World Wushu Championship, together with his coach, Staff Sergeant W.L.P Nilantha, were fêted by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army when they both were invited to the office of the Commander, Wednesday (13).
  • 'CHOGM 2013' Inaugurate at Nelum Pokuna

     

    The biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa International Conference Hall was inaugurated today (15) morning during a colourful ceremony, graced by more than 30 foreign delegates, including Heads of State. This year’s CHOGM is held for the first time in an Asian country after 24 years where its Chairmanship is to be accepted by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the next two years. The CHOGM enables leaders of Commonwealth countries to come together to discuss global and Commonwealth issues for collective policy-making and initiatives.
