On the eve of the inauguration of CHOGM, for which the Army and other service personnel, numbering 676 officers and 14,000 other ranks are contributing to various roles, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake on Tuesday (12) morning made a surprise visit and personally supervised temporary board and lodging facilities, organized for CHOGM ‘close protection’ and ‘escort’ teams of the tri-services in the heart of Colombo.
Accompanied by senior officers, including Major General Amal Karunasekara, Quarter Master General, the Commander had a close look at temporary housing arrangements, made available at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Regimental Headquarters and other accommodation venues on Malay Street, Colombo 2.
During the tour, the Commander spoke to a couple of soldiers serving those places and inquired into facilities, organized by the Army and other services for those security teams working during round the clock for the CHOGM.
