  • Signallers Mark 70th Anniversary with Many Events


    A series of ceremonies organized by Sri Lanka Signal Corps Regimental Headquarters and Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) Seva Vanitha Unit recently to mark SLSC’s 70th Anniversary included distribution of gift parcels to the value of Rs 1 lakh among next of kin of fallen SLSC War Heroes, opening of a holiday bungalow, a family get-together and religious observances.
  • Commander Briefs Officers & Other Ranks on CHOGM Liaison Roles



    More than 327 Army officers and 1336 Other ranks, selected to serve as Liaison Officers to Heads of States and delegates, attending the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and other various related duties, received a comprehensive briefing Thursday (7) evening from the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake. Lieutenant General Ratnayake’s address to them elaborated on the importance of the Army service to this mammoth international event and steps that should be adopted for smooth conduct of all liaison duties to the best satisfaction of the visitors arriving here.

    With Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army gracing as the Chief Guest, the Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) paid tribute to the memory of their fallen War Heroes at its Ambepussa Headquarters on Saturday (02), giving pride of place to next of kin and children of SLSR War Heroes, either killed in action or gone missing.

    Enabling the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake to bring back lots of undying school day memories, past and current students of the Commander’s alma mater, Kurunegala Maliyadeva College and other primary schools on Friday (8) gave rousing receptions to him after holding separate ceremonies in respective school premises.

  • 'Dinner Dance' Proceeds Given to Complete Pangolla 'Abimansala' Project

     
    A sum of Rs 15 million, raised through the recent annual ‘Dinner Dance’ of the Army was presented to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake during a ceremony at Mount Lavinia Hotel on Friday (8) evening. Funds thus handed over are to be used for the completion of the construction work still underway at Pangolla ‘Abimansala’.....
     
  • Ex-Servicemen's 'Remembrance Day' (Poppy Day) Ceremony Lays Wreaths at Cenotaph


    Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association organized ‘Remembrance Day’ (Poppy Day) and annual commemorative ceremonies in honour of country’s all fallen War Heroes took place at the Vihara Maha Devi Park War Memorial on Sunday (10) with the participation of a number of senior officers, both retired and still serving.Religious observances of all four major denominations, replete with chanting of stanzas.....
  • Army Archers Become National Champions

     
    Championship in the recent Archery Tournament, held at R. Premadasa Stadium was grabbed by the Army team, scoring the highest marks. Army archers emerged victorious by defeating 9 other teams that participated in this tournament lasted for two days (Nov 2 - 3). This was the 14th National Archery Tournament that was held with the participation of all island-wide teams.
  • Army Occupied 50 Houses & 22 More Land Plots Released Back to Owners


    50 more houses and 22 plots of lands in Jaffna, Point Pedro, Valvettithurai and Sakkottai areas, hitherto occupied by the Army for service purposes were released back to their legitimate owners by the 521 Brigade Headquarters of the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ - J) on Saturday (9). 521 Brigade Commander, together with the Divisional Secretary for Point Pedro, released.....
