  • New Defence Attache Calls on Commander


    The newly-appointed Defence Attaché to the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka, Colonel Sheharyar Parvez Butt, accompanied by Her Excellency Ms Seema Ilahi Baloch,    High Commissioner for Pakistan paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Friday (9) morning at Army Headquarters.
  • Young Cricketers' Co-Championship Goes To Junior Gunners & Sri Jinananda Team 'A'


    The first-ever cricket meet of the youngsters, ' Young Cougars Cricket Fiesta 201V organized by the newly established 4 Young Cougars Club' of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) recently got underway at the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment grounds at Ambepussa. Sixteen teams Under 13 and Above 13 categories including teams from Sri Jinananda Orphanage vied for championship during separate encounters that continued throughout the day amidst sounds of revelry and fun.
     
  • Sergeant Seekkuge Prasanna, Army's Second Test Cricketer Makes His Debut

    The Army’s one of the newest hopefuls in cricketing, Sergeant Seekkuge Prasanna of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps joined his debut test in the ongoing test series with Australia at Pallekele on Thursday (8) to be the second Army player in test cricket after 2/Lieutenant Ajantha Mendis. Lance Corporal Seekkuge Prasanna was promoted to the rank of Sergeant a few days ago by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya in recognition of his cricketing talents after his participation in the recent London  ‘A’ team tour. Seekkuge Prasanna worked his way up through the ranks by bowling leg-breaks and broke into the Sri Lanka Army team in 2006 as a 21-year-old cricketer.

    682 Brigade troops soon after the green signal was received from those de-miners in the area conducted a collective Shramadana campaign and renovated all the class rooms in this school which remained hitherto abandoned since de-mining work was on in the area.   • Service Corps Taekwondo Athletes Win the Day & Carries Away Championship

    The Army Taekwondo Championship Award ceremony, subsequent to the successful completion of the three-day (Sept 8-11) long Taekwondo Tournament, took place Monday (12) evening at the Panagoda Army Cantonment gymnasium. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as Chief Guest and His Excellency Choi Jong Moon, Ambassador for South Korea as Guest of Honour participated in the award ceremony, amidst a large gathering of senior Army Officers, Taekwondo athletes and invitees.
  • Army Initiative Gets Kovil a Water Purifying Machine

     
    With the coordination of the 515 Brigade serving Jaffna, the sacred Keeramalai Naguleshwaram temple recently received a new water purifying machine that can be used by devotees attending religious observances. The installation inaugurated on Friday (09) during a brief ceremony with the participation of representatives of the main sponsor, Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) has two water filters.
