  • Concerned Commander Donates to Save Thilina's Life

     
    Lending the fatherly eye on a family struck by a string of tragedies with loss of three children in quick succession, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya in response to a personal appeal made to him, took steps to donate a sum of Rs 2 lakhs for recovery of the family’s fourth 8 year old child, confirmed afflicted with Aplastic Anaemia, the condition where bone marrow does not produce adequate new cells to replenish blood cells.   • 25 Doctors Treat Pooneryn Civilians


    A record 598 civilians in Pooneryn area sought medical assistance from an Army-organized medical clinic on Friday (15), attended by 25 medical officers and 72 assistants. 66 Division troops under Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi took the initiative in organizing this one-day medical clinic as part of the Army’s humanitarian assistance for improvement of health among civilians resident in those areas.

    100 new houses, built solely through Army labour within a record span of just 10 days with raw materials, provided by the government, were vested with needy Jaffna families by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa Tuesday (19) afternoon during a symbolic ceremony at Keeramalai.   • US Lauds Army's Demining Efforts


    The US government Wednesday lauded the demining efforts of the Sri Lanka Army, and other local and foreign demining organizations in the North and Eastern provinces. According to US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Patricia Butenis, the Sri Lanka Army and other demining organizations have cleared large swathes of land in the North and Eastern Provinces of mines. Butenis was speaking at the handing over of four trucks to the humanitarian demining unit of the Sri Lanka Army at the US embassy in Colombo.
