  • 61 Division Organizes Water Pumps, Sewing Machines & Cash Donations for Vellankulam Civilians

     
    Vellankulam, the fertile landmass that remained a thriving ground for LTTE terrorism several years ago, has resumed its agricultural practices in full swing with the support of the government, donors and members of the Security Forces serving 61 Division under Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni. 50 water pumping machines, 18 sewing machines, financial grants and gift parcels of nutrients to children, sponsored by Allian Development Trust, to the value of Rs 2 million were among the latest to be distributed for the benefit of farmers.....
     
  • Atchuvely-Thondamanaru Road Opened for Commuters After 28 Years

     
    The Atchuvely – Point Pedro main road running via Thondamanaru which was closed for nearly 28 years was opened for the public by Hon Minister of Economic Development Mr. Basil Rajapaksa on Sunday (10). Hon. Minister Basil Rajapaksa accompanied by Hon. Minster of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Mr. Douglas Devananda, Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri and Commander Security Forces.....
     
  • Senior Officers Donate Wheelchair to Mother of a Soldier

     
    Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W), sensitive to the need of a wheelchair to the disable mother of an Army Corporal serving Wanni, donated one during a recent meeting at the SFHQ-W. The donation was made in response to a request made by Corporal R.S.C Rajakaruna to the senior officers. Brigadier A.P De Z Wickremaratne, Brigadier Wickremasinghe and Civil Affairs Coordinating Officer, Lieutenant Colonel K.R.S.P.K Kahagalle attended the occasion.
     
  • Economic Boom Predicted After Reconstruction of A-32

     
    Reconstruction of A-32 Mannar-Jaffna road across Pooneryn along the North Western coastal belt is to bring about a new cycle of economic revival covering Thanankilappu and Chavakachcheri areas, so said Minister of Economic Development Hon Basil Rajapaksa during a ceremony that marked resettlement of civilians after de-mining was completed by Army Engineer teams.
     
  • 40 Canoes, 40 Fishing Nets & Bicycles Donated to Ambal Nagar Fishing-Folk

    Selected 100 families of the fishing community in Ambal Nagar Grama Seva Division received a bonanza when the Minister of Fisheries Dr Rajitha Senaratne after inquiring into their well-being donated a stock of fiberglass canoes, fishing nets and bicycles during a visit he made to the area on Sunday (10). Most of the civilians in this area make their living through fishing and the recent complete removal of fishing restrictions has added a boom to the industry.

  • Seed Onions, Bicycles & Dry Rations Distributed in Mankulam

     
    With the objective of further uplifting living standards of 50 resettled families in the Mankulam Grama Seva Division under Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), the ‘Foundation of Goodness’ gave away bicycles, seed red onions and dry ration packets to the inhabitants during a brief weekend ceremony at Mankulam Maha Vidyalaya premises. The donation, coordinated by SFHQ-KLN had been sponsored by Mr Kusil Gunasekara   chief trustee, ‘Foundation of Goodness’ and members of the organization.
     
  • Army De-Miners Uncover 115 Weapons From Former LTTE 'Hospital' Premises

    One more clever LTTE ploy to mislead and distract attention while making the world believe that the LTTE was caring the sick, came to light when Army de-mining Engineers uncovered a large cache of unusable T-56 weapons and their spares from an abandoned toilet pit at Valipunam Mixed School, Mullaittivu, earlier used by terrorists as one of their hospitals in the ‘No Fire Zone’ (NFZ).

  • New IGP Pays Courtesy Call on Commander

     
    The newly appointed 33rd Inspector General of the Police (IGP) Mr N.K Illangakoon Friday (15) morning paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army at Army Headquarters. The visiting Police Chief at the entrance to the Army Headquarters received the Guard Turn Out and the Guard of Honour, accorded in his honour by Sri Lanka Artillery troops. Afterwards, Major General D.R.A.B Jayatillake, Commander, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, in accordance with formalities.....
     
  • Kegalle Students Leave Memories of Brotherhood with Mathagal Students

     
    Students of St. Joseph’s College, Mathagal recently had a memorable day with their counterparts of Swarnajayanthi Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle who were in Mathagal on a two day goodwill visit. Having identified needs of their friends studying at Mathagal St. Joseph’s College, boys and girls of Kegalle Swarnajayanthi, guided by their teachers, donated a stock of school items and sports ware to St. Joseph’s College and its students. A special function was held in this regard at school main hall on Monday (11).

    ‘Gunner Supercross - 2011’, the sporting pride of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) got underway at Minneriya Artillery Complex tracks on Sunday (10) to a packed crowd of more than 25000 - 30000 sport enthusiasts and motor racing fans. The exciting event, organized for the 6th consecutive time was held in collaboration with Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDR).
