61 Division Organizes Water Pumps, Sewing Machines &;amp; Cash Donations for Vellankulam Civilians

Vellankulam, the fertile landmass that remained a thriving ground for LTTE terrorism several years ago, has resumed its agricultural practices in full swing with the support of the government, donors and members of the Security Forces serving 61 Division under Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni.

50 water pumping machines, 18 sewing machines, financial grants and gift parcels of nutrients to children, sponsored by Allian Development Trust, to the value of Rs 2 million were among the latest to be distributed for the benefit of farmers, women and school children in Vellankulam area during a special ceremony, held recently at Vellankulam Kovilmottai Vidyalaya, following an initiative taken by the 61 Division.  

The ceremony, chaired by Brigadier A Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, in addition to water pumps, sewing machines and gift parcels, saw a sum of Rs 5.5 lakhs was also distributed among 22 civilians, ready to commence self-help projects. Each civilian was given Rs 25,000/= on the occasion as the initial assistance for the project.

Brigadier K.G.D Perera, Brigade Commander, 611 Brigade, Provincial Coordinator for Allian Development Trust, Mr K.A Ragulan, Provincial Educational Directress for Vavuniya, Ms Ganeshalingam, Mr Thomian, 61 Division Civil Affairs Coordinating Officer, several senior officers, teachers, children and a large gathering of civilians attended the ceremony.

The guests also interacted with children and teachers in the school afterwards in order to learn more of their requirements for improvement.
