Economic Boom Predicted After Reconstruction of A-32

Reconstruction of A-32 Mannar-Jaffna road across Pooneryn along the North Western coastal belt is to bring about a new cycle of economic revival covering Thanankilappu and Chavakachcheri areas, so said Minister of Economic Development Hon Basil Rajapaksa during a ceremony that marked resettlement of civilians after de-mining was completed by Army Engineer teams.

Minister after symbolically handing over the ownership of the lands to the resettled civilians in Thanankilappu area gifted dry ration packets to about 260 families and parcels of school accessories to children. The programme was coordinated by 523 Brigade under Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J).

A new bus stop, put up by the Army for convenience of resettled civilians was also opened at the same occasion. 523 Brigade soldiers before resettlement of civilians cleaned up all drinking water wells in the area as they had remained unused for years. To symbolize the beginning of provision of electricity to the area, a lamp post was also erected on the same occasion.

Hon Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Mr Douglas Devananda, Governor for Northern Province Major General (Retd) G. A. Chandrasiri, Commander, SFHQ-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, District Secretary Jaffna Mrs Emelda Sukumar and a large gathering of resettled people were present.
