  • FM Tells International Community: Take Punitive Action Against LTTE

    FOREIGN Minister Rohitha Bogollagama told Parliament yesterday the international community should reach a crescendo in calling on the LTTE to lay down arms and allow the people to leave the safe zone, in the absence of which punitive measures would follow. The Minister speaking at the Emergency debate said, “We welcome the ministerial statement issued earlier this month by the British Foreign Secretary Miliband that the LTTE is a terrorist organisation and that the Government of Sri Lanka has a need to root out the threat from terrorism.An aspect of this position was also echoed when the European Council in its conclusions on February called on the LTTE to lay down arms and renounce terrorism and violence once and for all, end the inhuman.....

  • Colombo's False Intellectuals and Their Anti Government Predictions

    FOR a long time Sri Lanka heard from some Colombo based experts receiving funds from Western agencies. ‘Sri Lankan Armed Forces can never defeat the Tigers’, “Tigers will make Kilinochchi the Army’s Stalingrad wrote an Indian expert; ‘The Tigers are invincible’, ‘Tigers will regroup and counter attack like on previous occasions and they are only withdrawing for tactical reasons’, said a US educated Colombo based expert; These were the mainstream expert views written from their relative comforts of plush NGO offices with questionable accounting practices. Somehow like most self-styled intellectuals, they too love the sound of their own voices and words.

  • Army Refutes Tiger Propaganda on Chemical Weapons

    COLOMBO: PRO-TIGER (LTTE) mouthpieces worldwide, unable to digest the humiliating defeat in the hands of Sri Lankan Security Forces, have been once again trying to tarnish the Sri Lanka Army image saying that it has ‘extensively used chemical weapons’ against Tigers in Puthukudirippu, the last bastion of Tiger terrorists. The Sri Lanka Army categorically denies LTTE’s baseless allegations outright and strongly affirms that the Army.....

  • Sri Lankans in Canada Help Army Welfare Projects

    SRI LANKANS living in Canada have donated over 40,000 Canadian dollars to Sri Lanka Army welfare projects. Consul General for Sri Lanka in Toronto, Bandula Jayasekara handed over the donation when he called on Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka at the Army HQ today (Apr 8). He also assured the Army Chief of the support and cooperation of the Sri Lankans living in Greater Toronto Area and Canada to the Armed forces. He said not only the Sri Lankans of all ethnicities living in Greater Toronto area, but also the Canadian Tamils have contributed to the donation.

  • Recovered LTTE's T-55 MBT Back on Wheels

    MULLAITTIVU: THE LTTE’s T-55 Main Battle Tank (MBT) recovered by the Army troops from the west of PUTUMATTALAN in MULLAITTIVU a few days ago was restored to working condition by Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Tuesday (7). The tank had been toppled and half sunk under the soil due to Air Force bombing while terrorists were using it against the troops.

  • Troops Recover Micro Pistol & Eighteen T-56 Weapons of LTTE

    MULLAITTIVU: DURING search and clear operations that followed clashes in the areas north of NANTHI KADAL lagoon, troops recovered eighteen T-56 weapons, one micro pistol along with one LTTE decomposed dead body Thursday (9). A few soldiers who sustained injuries due to explosion of LTTE explosive devices were rushed to hospital for treatment.
    Micro pistol are usually used by senior Tiger cadres.    

  • Two Tigers on Infiltration Attempt Shot Dead

    MULLAITTIVU: ARMY troops operating in the north of PUTUMATTALAN observed two LTTE terrorists on their abortive attempt to infiltrate the 55 Division Defence Line east of CHALAI lagoon Thursday (9) evening around 6.15 p.m.. Alert soldiers on duty shot and killed both the terrorists before they executed their mission.

  • Tigers Cornered to NFZ

    MULLAITTIVU: ARMY troops by Thursday (9) afternoon brought the remaining thin area west of PUTUMATTALAN under their control after killing some terrorists in the area. Capture of this area left no land for the troops to clear from the LTTE except the “No Fire Zone” (NFZ). Troops later recovered seven LTTE dead bodies, nine T-56 weapons, one I com set and a damaged tractor with its trailer.

  • Recovered LTTE's T-55 MBT Back on Wheels

    MULLAITTIVU: THE LTTE’s T-55 Main Battle Tank (MBT) recovered by the Army troops from the west of PUTUMATTALAN in MULLAITTIVU a few days ago was restored to working condition by Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Tuesday (7). The tank had been toppled and half sunk under the soil due to Air Force bombing while terrorists were using it against the troops. During clearing operations conducted by the troops subsequent to expel of Tigers from the area, this MBT was unearthed and repaired by the 5th Regiment SLAC. It was all evident that the LTTE had been using this tank with 100 mm caliber and 6900 m effective fire range until the last moment. This was the first time that the troops found a T-55 Main Battle Tank from the LTTE.

  • So Far 66,705 Civilians Have Entered Cleared Areas

    VANNI: CIVILIANS in the ‘No Fire Zone’ in PUTUMATTALAN, east of PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU who are unable to bear the atrocities of the LTTE terrorists against them are continuing to flee the grip of LTTE. Another such group of three hundred and one civilians who fled  ‘No Fire Zone’ reached Army controlled areas in PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU.....
