    Parallel Army Day (Oct 10) and 64th Army Anniversary ceremonies took place at provincial level in  a few Security Force Headquarters and Divisions on Thursday (10). Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) had organized a series of arrangements in this connection.     Corporal S. Niluka Karunaratne of 3 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) and Private W.K.R Vandort of 4 SLAWC who have been selected by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to play in the forthcoming South African tour were congratulated and extended best wishes by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake when he invited them to his office on Friday (11) morning.

  • Novice Monks' New Residential Quarters Opened at Sunethra Devi Pirivena


    HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, together with a host of Ministers, Secretary Defence and Urban Development and Commander of the Army Thursday (10) evening, took part in the ceremonial opening of a 7-storied new dormitory building for Maha Sangha, constructed by Sri Lanka Army Engineers at the historic Sri Sunethra Devi Raja Maha Vihara and Pirivena, Pepiliyana.

    ‘Oba Handanawaa Mata Aehenawaa – Oba Handanawaa Mata Denenawaa’, the latest hit, sung by visually and physically-handicapped ‘Abimansala’ inmate at Anuradhapura, Lance Corporal Charith Kularuwan Kulathilaka of 5 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), was recently presented to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake during a recent visit to Anuradhapura.
     
  • Signallers Get a New IT Wing


    A new Information Technology (IT) wing with the latest technology was declared open by Major General E.P De Z. Abeysekara, Deputy Chief of Staff and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) as the Chief Guest, at the School of Signals, Pallekele, Kandy recently. The new IT wing provides latest IT facilities to all the trainers.

    Reflecting deep sense of thoughtfulness, goodwill, sensitivities and harmonious existence, both Sri Jayawardenepura University Students and Staff as well as Army troops, serving the 22 Division of the Security Force Headquarters-East on Sunday (13), accomplished the national obligation of constructing a new spacious three-bed room house to the family of slain teenager, Rizana Nafeeq who flew to Saudi Arabia to get that dream fulfilled before her tragic fate on January 9, 2013.
     
  • Jaffna & East SFHQs & 59 Div Mark Army Anniversary

     
    Several more Army establishments around the country commemorated the 64th Army anniversary and Army Day simultaneously on October 10 at respective places. Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), adding a new dimension to the anniversary event, donated blood to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital during an arrangement, organized at Army Base Hospital at Palaly.
