Provincial Level Ceremonies in Kilinochchi, Wanni &;amp; Jaffna Mark Army Day


Parallel Army Day (Oct 10) and 64th Army Anniversary ceremonies took place at provincial level in  a few Security Force Headquarters and Divisions on Thursday (10).

Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) had organized a series of arrangements in this connection. Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN after raising the SFHQ-KLN flag as the first item on the agenda, read out the Commander’s message and participated in a tree planting programme in the SFHQ-KLN premises. An all rank lunch plus a visit to the Kilinochchi Military Hospital to inquire into the wellbeing of Army inmates ended the Army Day programme.

In the meantime, the SFHQ-W during its anniversary day arrangements planted 100 cashew saplings in the SFHQ premises after the day’s ceremony got underway following the hoisting of the SFHQ-W flag, one-minute silence and reading of the Commander’s message. Hospital visits, Bodhi Pooja and cleaning programmes were included in the day’s agenda. Many senior officers took part in the arrangements.

To coincide with the Army Anniversary, 211 Brigade Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) in the meantime gave away three Juki sewing machines to three low-income group families as means for income generation.

The donation ceremony took place on Army Day during a brief meeting at 211 Brigade Headquarters.        

Meanwhile, 55 Division Headquarters at Vettalakerni, Jaffna commenced its Army Day ceremony by hoisting the Division flag and recital of the Army song. Afterwards, the General Officer Commanding, Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe presented the Commander’s message to the troops. Tree planting and an all rank tea party culminated the programme.
