  • LTTE ARMS SHIP 'KRISHANTHAN' ARRESTED & BROUGHT HERE

    COLOMBO: ONE more LTTE ship, Princess Krishanthan, believed to have been carrying another haul of weapons and ammunition, arrested in the foreign seas was being escorted to the Colombo harbour as at 9.00 hours on Monday (21), the Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told the army.lk.
  • SVAB Gives Further Training to Pre-school Teachers

    THE SEVA VANITHA Army Branch (SVAB), closely monitoring child development process among War Hero children among Army families took a special initiative to conduct a special teacher training workshop for all teachers in SVAB managed island-wide pre-schools. The residential workshop continued for four days beginning December 15th at Manning Town Virudaru pre-school auditorium. The Open University of Sri Lanka coordinated the workshop and provided lecture assistance to the sessions.

  • Jaffna IDPs Home-Bound

    THE RESETTLEMENT of IDPs is being expedited and all IDPs of the Jaffna district will return to their original places of residence today. The number of IDPs at Menik Farm relief village had come down to 121,849 by yesterday, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Ministry Secretary U. L. M. Haldeen told the Daily News yesterday. He said all IDPs of the three districts of the Eastern Province; Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Ampara have been resettled. De-mining in the Mannar, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts is being expedited to resettle all IDP families by the end of January next year as promised.

  • Those who Obstructed War Victory at Work Again'

    THOSE who obstructed the war victory are trying to reverse the same victory achieved by the Government, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said at a special ceremony titled ‘the story behind the great victory today and tomorrow’ held at the Katugastota Buddhist Centre Hall, Kandy Saturday. Nearly 30,000 soldiers and policemen were killed and another 20,000 became disabled while another 90,000 civilians too were killed during the war. The economy of the country too was destroyed. The President finished the war in just four years which others said was invincible.

  • Troops in East Conduct Social Welfare Projects

    TROOPS of 233 Brigade under Security Forces Headquarters East conducted a medical clinic for the villagers of Kaddamuruvikulam in Batticaloa on 19th December 2009. During this clinic doctors of the Sri Lanka Army treated about 50 patients in the village.  Meanwhile, troops of 234 Brigade in Batticaloa saved the life of a leopard of a rare species on 18th December 2009. The leopard has fallen into a well of a civilian in Karuwappankerni village, the previous night. The troops rescued it and handed over to the Wildlife officials and released to Pillumalai reservation.

  • Wanni SF Headquarters Get More Facilities

    WANNI Security Forces Headquarters, the military establishment that co-coordinated most of the recent military operations as the epicenter for the whole of Wanni received a new hospital ward complex, an operation theater, an indoor gymnasium and a new residential building complex for senior officers, all of them long-felt requirements in the complex.

  • Troops Uncover Large Stock of LTTE Mortar Bombs

    WANNI & EAST: ARMY TROOPS on their search and clear operations and de-mining groups operating in Wanni areas on Friday (18) recovered, eighty-five anti personnel mines, one anti tank mine, six 120 mm mortar bombs, eight hundred and twelve rounds of T-56 ammunition, two hand grenades, forty-six claymore mines weighing about 7.5 kg each and six claymore mines weighing about 15 kg each from the general areas of MANTHAI EAST, SINNAPANDIPARICHCHAN, ADAMPAN, IRANAMADU, MULLAYAWELI and UDAYARKATTUKULAM.

  • More Heavy Machinery & Vehicles to Join Uthuru Wasanthaya

    THE Government has imported another fleet of heavy vehicles to be used in the development of the Northern Province under its Uthuru Wasanthaya programme. They had been imported under the guidance of Mr Basil Rajapaksa MP, the Senior Advisor to HE the President.   • 11th Haiti Bound Sri Lankan Contingent for UN Peace-Keeping to Leave Shortly

    THE official farewell military parade of Haiti bound 11th Sri Lankan Contingent was accorded this morning (23) at the THE final military parade of Haiti bound 11th Sri Lankan contingent was accorded this morning (23) at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry regimental parade ground before their departure to Haili shortly. Major General Daya Ratnayake, the Chief Guest on the occasion received the Guard of Honour of the UN peace-keepers, commanded by Colonel K.J Jayaweera. The latest batch of Sri Lanka Army troops consists of 52 officers and 697 Other Ranks, selected from various regiments including Sri Lanka Light Infantry officers and soldiers, being the majority of the contingent. This  contingent is due to depart on 31 December in order to relieve troops already .....

  • Army Celebrates Christmas

    TO COINCIDE with forthcoming Christmas celebrations, the Christian Association of the Sri Lanka Army organized a Christmas Carol presentation Wednesday (23) evening at the Christ Church on Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7. The chief guest for the event was the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. Members of the Army Band, school students and popular singers sang odes to Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ before the audience. Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Christian Association Major General G.P.R. de Silva Senior Army Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present on the occasion. Rt. Rev. Duleep de Chickera, Bishop of Colombo, Rev. Malinda de Mel, Assistant Curate, Rev. Fr. Joseph Benedict, .....
