11th Haiti Bound Sri Lankan Contingent for UN Peace-Keeping to Leave Shortly

THE final military parade of Haiti bound 11th Sri Lankan contingent was accorded this morning (23) at the Sri Lanka Light Infantry regimental parade ground before their departure to Haili shortly. Major General Daya Ratnayake, the Chief Guest on the occasion received the Guard of Honour of the UN peace-keepers, commanded by Colonel K.J Jayaweera.

The latest batch of Sri Lanka Army troops consists of 52 officers and 697 Other Ranks, selected from various regiments including Sri Lanka Light Infantry officers and soldiers, being the majority of the contingent.

This  contingent is due to depart on 31 December in order to relieve troops already serving in KILLICK, JAKMEL, PETITGOAVE and BRACHE LEOGANE in Haiti.  It will continue UN peace keeping missions assigned to Sri Lankan military upon arrival in Haiti.
