    "The only man under whom any General would gladly serve’ (Field Marshal Montgomery-later Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, on Field Marshal Alexander, later Earl Alexander of Tunis.     Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), appreciative of achievements of the world-class Javelin Throw athlete, Warrant Officer - 1 B.L. Nadeeka Lakmali of 4 Battalion (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) who secured the world’s 12th rank, having entered the final round at the recent IAAF World Athletics Championship, was awarded a permanent scholarship that would help continue her athletic training further.
  • Vietnam Mourns Her Legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap's Death


    One of history’s greatest military strategists and the architect of Vietnam’s milestone battlefield victories against the US and France, General Vo Nguyen Giap of Vietnam’s People’s Army (VPA) is no more. He died Friday (4) at the age of 102. Second only to late revolutionary leader, Ho Chi Minh as modern Vietnam’s most admired figure, General Giap defeated Vietnam’s colonial masters in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu where French rule ended but started direct US involvement leading to the Vietnam War.
     
     
  • Hindu 'Pooja' Blesses Army Anniversary



    The ‘Abishekam’ Pooja of Hindu tradition on Tuesday (8) invoked blessings on the forthcoming 64th Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) during a special ceremony, attended by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest. The ‘AbishekamPooja at Sri Ponnambalam Vaneshwarar Kovil, Colombo 13, organized by Sri Lanka Army Hindu Association, symbolically blessed the Army Flag after taking it into the inner chamber of the Kovil amidst religious rites and rituals.
  • Special Service at All Saints Church Invokes Blessings on the Army


    A special Mass at All Saints Church, Borella on Tuesday (8) evening invoked blessings on the forthcoming 64th  Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) as part of the religious observances, prior to the date of commemoration. Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army together with Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Army Christian Fellowship.   • Two New Army Woman Cricketers Selected for the South African Tour


    The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board, selected women’s cricket team of Sri Lanka for the South African tour comprises two woman cricketers of the Army, considering their merits and special performance. Corporal Niluka Karunarathna who is also a boxer has been selected for this tour as an all rounder representing the 14 members team.
