Special Service at All Saints Church Invokes Blessings on the Army

 

A special Mass at All Saints Church, Borella on Tuesday (8) evening invoked blessings on the forthcoming 64th  Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10) as part of the religious observances, prior to the date of commemoration.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army together with Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Army Christian Fellowship.

The special Mass and Thanks-giving service, got underway with an introduction, delivered to the occasion by Rev Benedict Joseph, Chaplain of the Army Christian Fellowship, the holly Mass was administered by His Eminence, Malcole Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo at the outset of the ceremony symbolically blessed the Army Flag and all Regimental Flags. His Eminence in a special move extended blessings separately on the Commander and Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake on the same occasion as a recognition of their commitment to the country.  

Around the same time, the Holy Mass prayed for the souls of fallen War Heroes and those went missing in action in the battlefields and elsewhere and simultaneously invoked blessings on all Army personnel injured and are still recovering and to those who are serving and to their family members.

The year’s ‘Commemoration and Thanksgiving Service’, organized by Army Christian Fellowship represented all schools of Christian faith and was officiated by highly respected clergy, including Rev Fr Benedict Joseph, Chaplain of Army Christian Fellowship, Rev Fr Felician Perera, Parish Priest, All Saints Church, Borella, Rev E.K Yasarathne (Baptist Church), Rev Rohitha de Silva (Methodist Church) and Rev Lenin John Marshell (Anglican Church).

Towards the end of the service, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake made a financial contribution to the clergy as a token of the Army’s appreciation of their religious services being rendered by the Church for promotion of spiritual values among the public.

Several Past Commanders of the Army, senior officers, Chairman, Army Christian Fellowship and a gathering of Army personnel, representing all Regiments attended the religious ceremony.
