  • Heads of Foreign Missions in Colombo Visit Jaffna

    A TEAM of foreign diplomats and officials from foreign missions based in Colombo flew to Palali, Jaffna on 25th November morning to get an idea of the present security situation in Jaffna. The delegation including Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Djafar Husein, his Second Secretary Mr. John Admiral, High Commissioner of Malaysia Mr. Rosll Ismail, his First Secretary Mr. Mohd Ezuwan Hassan, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand......

  • Skills of Virudaru Kids on Display

    VIRUDARU pre-school conducted by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) organized an exhibition to display skills of the pre-school children at its auditorium on 25th November 2009. This annual event was organized this time under the direction of Mrs. Shamali Weerasinghe, a senior member of SVAB and in-charge of the ViruDaru pre-school. President SVAB Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, Chief Guest of the event was received by Mrs. Shamali Weerasinghe on her arrival. 

  • Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Speaks to Volunteer Soldiers in Jaffna

    THE COMMANDANT of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Major General J.J.P.S.T Liyanage visited Jaffna peninsula on 23rd November to inspect the Volunteer battalions stationed in the peninsula and look into their requirements including welfare matters of members of the SLAVF. The visiting senior officer was accorded a Guard of Honour at the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) and after he was received by the Commander Security Forces Jaffna Major General L.B.R Mark.

  • More Donations for Disabled War Heroes

    THE Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) under the guidance of its President Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya made a donation of artificial limbs and commode sets to disabled War Heroes and scholarships to sons and daughters of the War Heroes who participated in recent humanitarian operations.The Chief Guest for the simple ceremony organized for this purpose was the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. It was held on Saturday (28) at the Indoor Stadium at Army Headquarters.

  • Directorate of Pay & Records Conducts Mobile Service to Solve Army Pension Issues

    DIRECTORATE of Pay and Records of the Army, under the guidance of the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and the Director General of Financial Management Major General H. L Weeratunga commenced a mobile service to solve difficulties faced by the Army pensioners who are unable to get their pensions due to various reasons and those planning to retire from the service during the year 2010.

  • Joint Searches Net More Weapons

    NORTH & EAST: ARMY troops on their search and clear operations conducted jointly with Navy and Police in the general areas of PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, ADAMPAN and IRANAMADU recovered one T-81 weapon, seventy-seven anti personnel mines, 23 kg of C-4 explosives, one hundred and twenty-five detonators, three thousand four hundred and ninety-one rounds of T-56 ammunition, forty anti personnel mine fuses.....

  • 122 Claymore Mines Found

    NORTH & EAST: ARMY troops during their search and clear operations on Sunday (29) recovered three T-56 weapons, eight T-56 magazines, forty-nine rounds of T-56 ammunition, one hundred and twenty-two claymore mines, one anti personnel mine, one hand grenade, three Outboard Motors (OBM), five detonators, 7 kg of explosives, two battery stands, four 50 liter acid cans, three anti tank mines and one sea mine from the general areas of PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU, VANNAKKULAM and VISUAMADU.   

  • Viru Kekulu Kids Show their Talents

    THE ANNUAL YEAR-END variety entertainment and the exhibition of handicrafts at the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) managed Viru Kekulu pre-school at Kosgama got underway last Friday (27). Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, SVAB President graced the occasion as Chief Guest in the company of several senior SVAB members. A bevy of kids learning in the pre-school welcomed the Chief Guest and conducted her to open the exhibition, organized by them. Mrs. Jayasuriya cut the ceremonial ribbon and lit the traditional lamp with others to inaugurate the day’s proceedings.

  • Indian Delegation Tours Jaffna

    HIGH Commissioner of India Mr. Shri Ashok K. Kantha with deputy High Commissioner Mr. Shri Vickram Misri and Defence Advisor Captain Pradeep Sing flew to Jaffna for a two-day official visit Wednesday (25) morning. They were received by Major General L.B.R Mark, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna on arrival at the Palali airport.  During the first day (25), the delegation participated in a special Pooja at sacred Nallur Kandasamy Hindu Kovil and later met Professor N. Shanmugalingam, Vice Chancellor of Jaffna University at the University premises. 

  • IDPs Can Now Exit Welfare Centres & Return

    INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDP) in Vavuniya, Mannar, Welioya and other areas are given permission from today (1) onwards to move about freely outside those Welfare Centres and return after sometime. The Government’s initiative under “Freedom of Moment” will thus enabled about 6769 civilians comprised of 2100 civilians from Zone zero, 718 from Zone-I, 2022 from Zone-II, 620 from Zone-III.....
