  • Cargills Food City, Provider of Food & Refreshments for Army Tattoo

    THE forthcoming Army Tattoo, (Oct 19-23) that coincides with the part of Army 60th Anniversary celebrations received a boost this afternoon (24) when Cargills (Ceylon) PLC offered its partnership for supply of food and beverages during the Tattoo at Kettarama Stadium. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya acknowledging their pledge of support for this Anniversary event received the cheque from Mr. Ranjith Page, Managing Director, Cargills (Ceylon) PLC .....

  • Army Hospital Receives Donation of Twelve Adjustable Beds

    EXTENDING a gesture of gratitude towards War Heroes who are receiving medical treatment in hospital, one more Sri Lankan living in the USA donated a stock of beds to the Army hospital for the use of inmates. Mr. Leonard Weerasinghe presently living in New York during his visit to the island found the opportunity to donate twelve adjustable beds, each costing Rs. 65,000/= to the Army hospital in recognition of the commitment of soldiers during the war to eliminate terrorism from the motherland.

  • Army in Jaffna Strengthens Public Relations Further

    PUBLIC relations between troops and civilians in Jaffna are fast growing and turning better and better as total normalcy prevails in the peninsula with development work in full swing. Troops attached to 3rd Volunteer Battalion of Vijayaba Infantry Regiment (VIR) that come under 521 Brigade in the 52 Division recently took part in a massive “Shramadana” (Self-help) campaign to clean the famous Vallipuram Hindu Kovil (temple) in Jaffna.

  • Injured Civilians Rushed to Hospital

    JAFFNA: FOUR CIVILIANS sustained injuries due to explosion of a land mine while they were collecting sand in the village area of MULLI Friday (25) evening around 7.30 p.m.. THAVARASA DINESH, S. ILLANTHIRIYAN, S. SURENDRAN and GEORGE WOOROW were injured in the explosion of the land mine, believed to have been buried by LTTE terrorists in the area some time back before they were defeated. Injured sand miners were rushed to JAFFNA hospital.

  • Army Receives New Fleet of Heavy Machinery for Development Work

    OVER one hundred of earth-moving machinery, bought by the Sri Lankan government from China were handed over to the Sri Lanka Army in a ceremony held at the Defence Ministry premises at Galle Face Saturday (26).   • Unlawful Gathering at Menik Farm Dispersed

    VAVUNIYA: AN ORGANIZED attempt by a group of aggressive men at the MENIK FARM Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) relief village to forcibly enter into the Zone-2 from Zone-1 was thwarted by the security forces personnel on sentry duties Saturday (26) afternoon. When the troops prevented the forcible entry of the crowd which was swelling in number, they began to attack the sentries with clubs and stones and turned more violent.

  • Seventy-four LTTE Hand Grenades Found

    WANNI & EAST: ARMY TROOPS conducting search and clear operations in the general areas of IRANAMADU, VISUAMADU, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL, KANDAMALAI and BATTICALOA recovered on Monday (28) one T-56 weapon, one thousand and six rounds of T-56 ammunition, three booby traps made using 81 mm mortar bombs, two 81 mm mortar bombs, sixty-eight hand grenades, seventy-two 60 mm mortar bombs, thirteen 60 mm mortar chargers, two claymore mines weighing about 2 kg, four Rocket Propelled Grenades.....

  • Search Operations Collect more Claymores

    WANNI & WEST: ARMY TROOPS on search and clear operations in the general areas of  KILINOCHCHI, VISUAMADU, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL, AMPAKAMAM, WELIOYA and VADORAMULLA recovered two 81 mm mortar bombs, one anti personnel mine, ten claymore mines each weighing about 1.5 kg, one claymore mine weighing about 5 kg, one claymore mine weighing about 2.5 kg, five 82 mm mortar bombs, fourteen 60 mm mortar bombs, four T-56 weapons, twenty six magazines, four hand grenades.....

  • Troops Make Startling Recovery of UAV Parts

    MULLAITTIVU: TASK FORCE - VIII troops in PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU on Sunday (27) made a startling recovery of parts of an Unmanned Air Vehicle (CI 307 UAV) that had been kept buried by Tiger terrorists in KAPPUKULAM area before they were crushed by War Heroes a few months ago. Task Forces-VIII troops while conducting search and clear operations in the area on suspicion dug the spot and unearthed part of an UAV engine, three parts of an UAV camera, two UAV wings, two front wheels, one small rear wheel, eight training bombs, three dropping bombs, four bags with damaged parts of an UAV, one oxygen cylinder and one aircraft engine.
