  • New CDS & Navy Commander Call on President

    THE newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka Wednesday (22) morning called on His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces after General Fonseka assumed duties in the new office. Meanwhile, the new Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe paid a courtesy call on His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Wednesday (22) morning. President Rajapaksa extended his best wishes on new appointments and appreciated the roles played by tri services during the recently concluded humanitarian operation in Wanni.

  • One More Thermo Baric Weapon Belonging to LTTE Found

    NORTH: TROOPS conducting search and clear operations in the general areas of DHARMAPURAM, ALANKULAM, ODDUSUDAN  NORTH NOCHCHIMODAI, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU and KALAVADI for another day on Wednesday (22) collected one more LTTE Thermo Baric weapon, one T-56 weapon with magazine, one pistol (Olympia type), two pistol magazines, four 81 mm mortar bombs, one thousand primer chargers, twelve  claymore mines, two hundred and seventy-nine anti personnel mines, forty-five anti personnel mine fuses.....

  • CDS Visits Army Commander at AHQ

    IN KEEPING with military traditions, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Sarath Fonseka Thursday (23) morning paid a courtesy call on the new Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at his office in the Army Headquarters. The visit, seen also as a gesture of goodwill and understanding was the first of such nature after the new CDS assumed duties early this week. The visiting CDS was received at the main entrance.....

    COMMANDER of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Colombo Thursday (23) afternoon. The new Navy Commander on his first visit to the AHQ on arrival was received by Colonel Athula Silva, Commanding Officer Headquarter battalion Army Headquarters.   • Eastern Troops Recover Massive Stock of Ammo

    EAST & NORTH: THE 232 BRIGADE troops on a tip-off conducted a search operation in the general area of KAYANODAITHETHIYAN in VALAICHCHENAI on Thursday (23) afternoon and recovered ninety-nine boxes containing seventy-four-thousand two hundred and fifty (74,250) rounds of T-56 ammunition left buried in the area by the LTTE terrorists. Security Forces and Police during recent search and clear operations have so far recovered massive stocks of arms, ammunition and explosives abandoned by the LTTE.   

  • Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Takes Leave of His Soldiers

    COMMANDER of the Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe bade goodbye to officers and soldiers at Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) last morning (23) and left Jaffna to take up duties as the Chief of Staff at Army Headquarters, Colombo.   • Commander Gives Patient Hearing to Recuperating War Heroes

    COMMANDER OF THE ARMY Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya in the company of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), accompanied by several senior members of the SVAB visited War Heroes who were injured during the victorious humanitarian operations, but still under medical treatment at Military Hospital, Colombo this morning (24). This is the first visit of Lieutenant General Jayasuriya to the Military Hospital after he assumed duties as Commander of the Army. During the visit, Army Commander shared a couple of views with War Heroes in hospital and every one of them was given a gift parcel containing fruits and chocolates.  Lieutenant General Jayasuriya also made specific inquiries into the facilities at the hospital, provided to the patients and other necessary improvements need to be done to the hospital in the future.  

  • 120mm Mortar Gun Found.

    EAST : FOLLOWING intelligence information, 232 Brigade troops recovered one 120mm mortar gun belonging to the LTTE from THARAVIKULAM in THOPPIGALA area Friday (24) afternoon. The complete 120 mm gun with all its accessories was found buried in the jungle area. This is the 6th heavy weapon of this caliber found by the Eastern troops since 1st January 2009. 

  • De-mining Accelerated

    IN THE aftermath of the war that eliminated LTTE terrorism entirely from the Wanni, Sri Lankan Army troops are now busy clearing mine fields to ensure the land is free of them before resettlement. In addition to foreign de-mining groups operating in those areas, Engineer troops of the Sri Lanka Army are actively involved in removing anti personnel mines, booby traps, claymore mines and other Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) laid earlier by the LTTE, endangering lives of civilians in their own homesteads.

  • Disable Soldiers to Receive Full Pension

    CABINET of Ministers had decided to grant full pension for disabled War Heroes after they reached 55 years of age. Their spouses and the children are also entitled to pensions, according to new proposals passed in parliament. The earlier procedure was to give half of their pension money for disable War Heroes after they reached 55 years and their dependants were not entitled for a pension.
