EAST & NORTH: THE 232 BRIGADE troops on a tip-off conducted a search operation in the general area of KAYANODAITHETHIYAN in VALAICHCHENAI on Thursday (23) afternoon and recovered ninety-nine boxes containing seventy-four-thousand two hundred and fifty (74,250) rounds of T-56 ammunition left buried in the area by the LTTE terrorists.
Security Forces and Police during recent search and clear operations have so far recovered massive stocks of arms, ammunition and explosives abandoned by the LTTE.
The same day, troops conducted search and clear operations in VISUAMADU, ALANKULAM, VELLANKULAM and PUTHUKKUDDIYIRUPPU areas recovered twenty 81 mm mortar bombs, three T-56 magazines, ninety rounds of T-56 ammunition, eleven claymore mines, two locally-made guns, parts of a 130 mm gun, seventy-three rounds of Rocket Propelled Gun (RPG) ammunition, eleven thousand seven hundred and eighty-six (11786) electric detonators, three shotguns, four thousand and four hundred (4400) grenade pouches, eighty Silva compasses, one hundred jackets, seventeen rounds of .50 mm ammunition, ten anti personnel mines, three T-56 weapons, twenty-nine hand grenades, four mortar rounds, six hundred General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, one .50 mm weapon barrels, five Light Machine Gun (LMG) links and two low-band PR3 1077 sets.
