  • New VIR Colonel of the Regiment Assumes Office


    The newly-appointed Colonel of the Regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Major General N.A.J.C. Dias assumed office on Thursday (12) during a brief religious ceremony.  Major General N.A.J.C. Dias is also the Adjutant General of the Army Headquarters. Upon arrival at the VIR Regimental Headquarters at Boyagane, Kurunegala, the new Colonel of the Regiment was greeted to a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour at the premises.
  • Major General Daulagala, GR's New Colonel of the Regiment


    Major General S.W.L Daulagala on Thursday (19) assumed duties as new Colonel of the Regiment, Gajaba Regiment (GR) at GR Headquarters in Saliyapura, Anuradhapura in addition, to his current appointment as the Director General General Staff (DGGS) at Army Headquarters.   • Three Senior Officers to Leave for Haiti to Investigate Into Soldier's Alleged Misconduct


    On the directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, three senior officers of the Army, appointed to the Court of Inquiry (CoI), convened to investigate an alleged molestation attempt on a Haitian woman by a member of the Sri Lankan contingent, serving the UN Peacekeeping Mission (MINUSTAH) in Leogane, are to leave for Haiti shortly for extensive inquiries.

    Sri Lanka Army Ordinance Corps (SLAOC), the last year’s runners-up in the Badminton tournament emerged victorious and clinched the championship by beating Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) during the Inter Regiment Badminton Tournament held at Royal College Indoor Stadium.   • Signalman Wimalasiri Carries Gold in the Long Jump


    The 91st National Athletic Championship Tournament at Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo produced a Gold medalist for the Army during the tournament on Wednesday (18). The Army athlete, Signalman W.A.G Wimalasiri, securing a distance of 7.46 meters in the Men’s Long Jump event secured this victory with a Gold Medal.   • Chavakachcheri Civil & Army Singers to Receive Valuable Gifts


    A Bajaj three-wheeler, a motorbike and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh are among awards that were to be distributed among winners of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, initiated ‘Three-wheel Star’ programmes under the thematic ‘Jaffna Ran Handa’ music programme. A recent attempt to select 100 competitors for the first round of the singing competition took place recently before a gathering of artistes and other invitees.
     
  • Troops Respond to Vavuniya Hospital's Urgent Need


    In response to a request made by the Vavniya Blood Bank, more than 250 officers and other ranks of the 61 Division in Vavuniya voluntarily came forward to offer their blood for the benefit of patients receiving treatment at the Vavuniya Hospital on Wednesday (18). Dr T. Voleena Dissanayaka of the Blood Bank unit of the Vauniya Hospital together with several members of the medical staff assisted the project.

    Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) as the Chief Guest at the invitation of 55 Division General Officer Commanding participated in another scholarship distribution ceremony, held recently at the Pachchilaipalai Divisional Secretariat premises in Jaffna.
