  • Nachchikkuda Police Station Re-established

    THE SIXTH Police Station established in the Mannar District after liberating the area from the LTTE was declared open in Nachchikuda on Saturday (20). Senior Deputy Inspector General Nimal Lewke unveiled the plaque of the new Police Station and declared it opened. Silawathura, Madhu, Vedattalativu, Illuppukaddavai and Mulangavil were the other Police Stations to commence their operations shortly after the Wanni humanitarian operations were over. 

  • Easterners Urged to Deliver Unauthorized Weapons to Security Forces

    SECURITY authorities in the eastern Katthankudy town during a goodwill promotion meeting held at Katthankudy Cultural Centre recently urged the public to hand over their unauthorized firearms to the nearest Police Station on or before 2nd July 2009. The meeting, headed by Major General Srinath Rajapakse, Commander Security Forces Headquarters East (SFHQ-E) was attended by the Moulavi at Katthankudy Mosque.....

  • Money & Jewelry Hidden by Tigers Found

    MULLAITTIVU: ON INFORMATION received from a terrorist in custody, troops on Tuesday (23) found a large amount of money and jewelry from VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL area where senior Tiger leaders were hiding during their final days of the battle against the troops. A sum of Rs. 6,491,099/- in cash and a few boxes containing about 100 kg of jewelry were found hidden in VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL area during the search by the troops.

  • Police Unearth Haul of LTTE Arms

    BATTICALOA: FOLLOWING information, a special Police team from COLOMBO supported by the VAKARAI Police  unearthed a stock of weaponry buried near TRACTOR JUNCTION in VAKARAI on Wednesday (24) evening. Weapons and other items had been buried by Tigers before the area fell under the Army troops who liberated the EAST from LTTE terrorists.

  • Senior Tiger Hiding in Kodikamam Area Shot Dead

    JAFFNA: HAVING being informed of the presence of a few suspicion persons in KODIKAMAM area, JAFFNA 522 Brigade troops conducted a special search in the area  Wednesday (24) morning. As the troops were passing IYATTALAI area around 8.00 a.m., troops observed one suspect hiding himself behind a bush and attempting to throw a hand grenade towards the troops.

  • Troops Enable Civilians in Jaffna to Get Spectacles


    Recently, 52 Division troops of the Army, stationed in Varani, Jaffna conducted a few community-based social service projects by way of providing spectacles to the needy and educational accessories to school children in Vadamarachchi and Thenmarachchi areas.  The project was supported by both Wickramarachchi Opticians and the Development Lottery Board, Colombo.
  • Troops Find Over 7000 Electric Detonators

    NORTH & EAST: TROOPS conducting search and  clear operations in MAHILANKULAM, PARANTHAN, OLUMADU, AMPALAWANPOKKANAI, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL, KARYALAMULLIVAIKKAL, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU and UDAYARKATTU areas in the NORTH recovered seven T-56 weapons, four T-56 magazines, six micro pistols, twelve pistol magazines, three Chinese pistols with magazines, thirty-eight rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, forty-two rounds of micro pistol ammunition, eight explosive slabs, three thousand two hundred and thirty-one rounds of T-56 ammunition.....

  • Vavuniya ICRC Head Meets Wanni Commander

    HEAD of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in Vavuniya Ms. Valerie Petitplere, during a recent discussion with Commander Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) Major General Jagath Jayasuriya, assured her continuous support to maintain good sanitary standards in rehabilitation centres in Vavuniya.

  • SL Red Cross Employee Found Killed

    JAFFNA: TROOPS conducting further search and clear operations in IYATTHALAI area recovered one claymore mine, three hand grenades, one I-com set, three cyanide capsules, six code sheets, three area maps, one cassette player, one wallet, one SIM card and eleven thousand and five hundred in cash on Friday (26). It was Wednesday (24) morning that troops shot dead one senior LTTE cadre named SALAPPAN in the same area. (See Situation Report Titled “Senior Tiger Hiding in Kodikamam Area Shot Dead” on 26th June 2009) In the meantime, an employee of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) was reportedly killed by an unidentified assassin on Friday (26) inside her home in PULOLY.

  • Police Recovers Arms & Explosives

    EAST : POLICE personnel, attached to the VALAICHCHENAI Police Station on Friday (26) recovered one claymore mine of 10 kg, one T-56 weapon, three T-56 magazines, fifty rounds of T-56 ammunition, three Motorola communication sets, four hand grenades and 1 kg of C-4 explosive. Meanwhile, Special Task Force (STF) troops serving in AMPARA recovered one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher, three RPG bombs and four RPG chargers during a search and clear operation conducted in KOLIYANARU area.
