HEAD of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in Vavuniya Ms. Valerie Petitplere, during a recent discussion with Commander Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) Major General Jagath Jayasuriya, assured her continuous support to maintain good sanitary standards in rehabilitation centres in Vavuniya.
Ms. Valerie Petitplere, accompanied by Mr. Pablo Tercels of ICRC, during the discussion on Thursday (25), told the Wanni Commander that ICRC would increase the number of lavatories being erected in rehabilitation centres where young men and women who had earlier been members of the LTTE were detained.
Brigadier S. Ranasinghe, Brigadier General Staff SFHQ-W was also present at the meeting.
The same day, Wanni Commander met UNICEF Child Protection Specialist Ms. Barbara Profeta and a member of the UNICEF Education Wing in Vavuniya Mr. Arial Solan.
Education and other facilities to be given by UNICEF to the rehabilitation center coming up in Poonthottam for LTTE child soldiers and launching a of special programmes for those who are going to sit for the GCE A/L examination in August this year were the matters taken up for discussion.
