  • Wanni Commander Inspects Madhu Arrangements

    As final touches are being provided to the overall security arrangements in connection with the forthcoming annual Madhu Shrine feast, Major General D.G.H.K. Gunaratne, Commander, Security Forces, Wanni along with senior Army and Police officers met Madhu Shrine authorities and looked into security arrangements.

  • Mannar Troops Do their Part in Dengue Eradication

    Troops based in Wanni have come forward to perform their share of responsibility in connection with the ongoing island-wide Dengue eradication programme. Under the guidance of Major General D.G.H.K Gunaratne, Commander, Security Forces, Wanni, the programme started off in Mannar area along with the troops commanded by Brigadier M.A.M Dias, Area Commander, Mannar. 

  • Mentally retarded Teenage Girl to Receive Home from Army

    Army troops in the 23 Division, Poonani have taken steps to build a new house for a widow with her 13 year old mentally retarded daughter in the area. The family, sheltered in a hut at present at Boattha Village has lost its breadwinner and the widowed mother has been compelled to look after her mentally retarded 13 year old daughter. 

  • 3rd Witness Gives Evidence in Court Martial-1

    The Court Martial-1 probing charges against General Sarath Fonseka’s alleged participation in political work resumed its sittings on 10th August 2010 at 9.30 a.m. as scheduled. Prosecution called up the 3rd witness and led the evidence of the witness before the Court Martial-1, presided by Major General H.L Weerathunga adjourned for the day. Though no defence counsel appeared for General Fonseka for the second consecutive day, the Court Martial-1 decided to resume its sittings on 12th August 2010) at 9.30 a.m.

  • 85 More Pass Out after Buddy Trio Training

    Security Forces Commander, Kilinochchi Major General L.W.C.B.P Rajaguru received the salute from passing out trainees after completion of one-month long Buddy Trio Training at Buddy Trio Training School in Mulangavil, Kilinochchi. The passing out parade of 85 more Army personnel, including 3 officers took place on 3rd August 2010 where Major General L.W.C.B.P Rajaguru attended as Chief Guest on the occasion.  

  • Gurunagar Civilians Back to Their 97 Homes as Security Restrictions Removed

    More than 14 years of absence, inhabitants in 97 houses dotted between Gurunagar and Ceynor Jetty in Jaffna were to return to their original homes after Security Forces, Jaffna, removing all security restrictions in place handed them over to their lawful heirs during a brief ceremony. Facilitation of the resettlement of those families in their own houses became possible and speedy after the Security Forces opened the New Beach Road along Gurunagar beach patch for public use.

  • Cricket Fever Booms in Jaffna as Tournament Gets Underway

    Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ - J) organized a cricket tournament for all clubs in the peninsula with the intention of popularizing the game among the youth in the area. The 20/20 cricket tournament received an overwhelming response from the clubs as 18 teams consented to take part in the team. In addition, teams from the tri-services and the Police came forward to try their luck. A tournament of this nature was conducted in Jaffna after absence of more than thirty years.
