  • SECOND COURT MARTIAL TO CALL UP THIRD WITNESS

    The Second Court Martial probing into charges against General Sarath Fonseka’s alleged violation of military procurement procedures commenced its sittings at 2.00 p.m. on Tuesday (July 27) as scheduled. The second witness’ examination in chief as well as the cross examination by the defence was concluded today (27) and the tribune is to call up the third witness when it resumes sittings on Wednesday (28) at 2.00 p.m. (Ends) 

  • Senior Brigadiers Including Incumbent & Former Military Spokesmen Promoted

    Five senior Brigadiers in the Army have been promoted to the rank of Major General, the Military Secretariat announced Tuesday (27) evening. Brigadier S.A.A.L Perera, former General Officer Commanding 52 Division, Brigadier E.K.J.K Wijesiri, Provost Marshal, Brigadier U.A.B. Medawela, Military Spokesman and Director Media, Brigadier V.U.B Nanayakkara, former Chief Field Engineer and Brigadier M.H.S.B. Perera, General Officer Commanding 23 Division were thus promoted to the rank of Major General.

    Emergency contingency plans and methods, introduced and improvised by Sri Lankan UN peace-keeping troops, currently serving Haiti to rescue victims in the event of any potential threat of hurricanes, have won high praise from senior UN  officials and other visiting heads of missions. A life saving craft,  specifically designed and made by Haiti-based Sri Lanka.....
  • PROSECUTION TO CONTINUE 3RD WITNESS' EVIDENCE

    The Second Court Martial probing into charges against General Sarath Fonseka’s alleged violation of military procurement procedures commenced its sittings at 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday (July 28) as scheduled.  The third witness, currently under remand custody, related to the case on HICOPE transactions was called up to give evidence. Prosecution will continue examination in chief when the tribune meets again on 7th August 2010 at 8.30 a.m. (Ends)

    The curtain came down on Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Inter Regiment Athletic Meet 2010 Thursday (29) afternoon where Commander of the Army, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest gave away medals and trophies to the winners in the annual event. Around 800 competitors representing 111 volunteer battalions competed for medals in this three day long athletic meet that got off the ground on Tuesday (27) at Colombo Sugathadasa Stadium.

  • Japan-Lanka Friendship Association Does it Again

    Japan-Lanka Friendship Association, presided by Dr Lal Thilakarathne which has been at the forefront since 1998, providing the Army with ambulances, fire engines, medical equipment and other accessories, has once again reassured its continuing goodwill and donated one more ambulance and three fire engines worth  Rs. 124 million for use of the Army this morning (26).
