  • Stage Set For 'Exercise - Cormorant Strike IV - 2013' With Foreign Military Participants


    The joint military ‘Exercise - Cormorant Strike IV - 2013’, with more than 2698 tri-service personnel, together with over 40 foreign military participants and observers from six countries, will get underway during Sept 11 - 23 in the eastern areas of Kadiraweli, Vakarai, Thrikonamadu, Thoppigala, Narakamulla and Batticaloa of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E).

  • Army Amateur Boxers Do Well


    The Army team contested for the Clifford Cup in the recent Amateur Boxing tournament at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium did fairly well and secured the overall third place, winning one Championship, 4 runners-up slots and the third place in 9 weight categories. The Army team bagged 25 points in total.
     
  • Private Donor Gives Helping Hand to Ancient Pirivena


    The historic Wanni-based centre of Buddhist scholarship, Isinbessagala Pirivena in Vavuniya for both monks and laymen received a stock of new furniture, valued more than Rs 309,000/=, thanks to the sponsorship, offered by Ceylon Hospital PLC, following coordination, done by 211 Brigade Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W).
     
  • More Land Blocks Distributed Among Tamils in Vavuniya


    In line with the government’s ongoing distribution of land among Tamil people, 56 Division Headquarters assisted a government-sponsored resettlement programme where 106 families were allotted each with 40 perches in Agbopura area during a ceremony on August 30. The ceremony organized under the patronage of Ven Etambagaskada Kalyanatissa Nayake Thero, Deputy Chief Sanganayake of the Northern Province.....
  • They Give Blood to Patients at Jaffna Teaching Hospital to Mark Anniversary


    Commemorating the 18th Anniversary of the 51 Division, now based in Kopai, troops donated blood for the use of patients at Jaffna Teaching Hospital during a recent special arrangement. More than 163 officers and other ranks of the 51 Division voluntarily offered blood to the blood bank unit of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Dr T. Pradeepan, several members of the medical staff assisted the project.
     
  • Students Given More Incentives in Jaffna

     
    52 students of Kaddaikadu Roman Catholic Mixed School (RCMS) and their parents were the beneficiaries of dry rations, school uniforms and stationeries, sponsored by ‘King of Help – Sri Lanka’ organization, following coordination done by 19 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving under the 55 Division in Jaffna area.
     
  • Nawanthurai Civilians Get Building Materials

     
    20 low-income group families in Nawanthurai area, served by 512 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with the support of the SFHQ-J, received building materials and roofing sheets for construction of their houses. Each family under this programme received ten cubes of sand, roofing sheets and six cement bags under this programme launched by the 51 Division.
     
  • 19 SLNG Troops Make One More House


    19 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving 55 Division in Jaffna, expanding their community roles further, have come forward to build a new house for a low-income group family in Mulliyan Grama Seva Division after their plight was brought to the notice of Army troops serving there. The house, meant for the family of Ms Ravichandran Wijeyakumari is to be built by 19 SLNG troops themselves after seeking generous assistance from south-based donors.
