  • Defence Secretary Recalls Cherished Memories In His Previous Fortress

    Former Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Gajaba Regiment (1989 - 1990) turned Sri Lanka’s highly respected incumbent Defence Secretary had the rare chance of dignifying his old Regimental Headquarters at Saliyapura, Anuradhapura once again when he, in the company of Commander of the Army ceremonially, opened two new Holiday Resorts plus a drinking water scheme for ‘keterians’ (Gajaba soldiers)  at its Saliyapura headquarters this morning (15). Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa on arrival at the Gajaba Regiment Headquarters, his yesteryear professional fortress, now as a retired career soldier, was accorded a Guard of Honour, befitting military traditions.

  • Commander Inspects 'Abimansala' Construction Site

    COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, accompanied by the Security Forces Commander Wanni Major General G.D.H.K Gunaratne on Wednesday (14) visited the construction site at Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’, the wellness resort for totally dependent disabled War Heroes and saw for himself the progress of its construction work. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya took time off to walk around the site inspecting the progress of the construction of villas and cottages that are being constructed by soldiers belonging to Engineer Service Regiment.

    PRIZE AWARDING ceremony of the year’s colourful Inter Regimental Drill Competition  took place at Army Headquarters ground Thursday (15) evening where  Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya graced as Chief Guest. At the commencement of the day’s proceedings, display of Drills that testified to the discipline of Army soldiers.....

  • FIRST WITNESS CROSS EXAMINING TO CONTINUE

    The Court Martial I hearing charges against General Sarath Fonseka’s alleged participation in political work while in active service commenced its sittings at 1400 hours on Friday (16). Cross examining and lead of evidence of the first witness is to continue once again when the sittings resume on Monday (26th July 2010) at 1400 hours.

    The Nedunkerni Divisional Secretariat was re-opened in a new building complex when a ministerial delegation recently visited the area. Minister of Economic Development Mr Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Public Administration Mr W.D.J Senevirathna and Minister of Power and Energy Mr Patali Champika Ranawaka attended the opening ceremony in the company of new Divisional Secretary.......

  • Over 2000 Receive Consultations from Army Organized Three Day Medical Camp

    A three-day medical camp organized by Mannar Area Headquarters during July 12-14 drew a record 2020 patients to receive medical consultations. The forty-member medical team, dispatched to the area by Wanni Security Forces Headquarters on the instructions of Ministry of Defence and Commander of the Army belonged to the Church of 4th Square Gospel and comprises medical officers, para-medics  and assistants.....

    PRIZE AWARDING ceremony of the year’s colourful Inter Regimental Drill Competition  took place at Army Headquarters ground Thursday (15) evening where  Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya graced as Chief Guest. At the commencement of the day’s proceedings, display of Drills that testified to the discipline of Army soldiers have received was held amidst loud cheering of the spectators. It followed the Band Display that added  rhythmic music to the occasion in their multi-coloured military attires.
