  • Army Finds Jobs for Unemployed Jaffna Youths

    THE MAIN company, K.B. Ebert & Sons Ltd, engaged in the Jaffna- Point Pedro main road reconstruction work, following a request made by the Army offered job opportunities for eight youths in Mirusuvil, Jaffna. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya during a recent visit to the peninsula instructed Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna to explore possibilities of finding as many employment opportunities as possible to unemployed Tamil youngsters in the area.

  • ARMY PERSONNEL SUFFERING PERMANENT TOTAL DISABILITY FOLLOWING ACCIDENTS WHILST ON DUTY TO RECEIVE FULL SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

    ALL Army personnel remain permanently disable for the rest of their lives due to accidents while on duty are to be paid their full salary and allowances until they reach 55 years of age in accordance with the provisions of an Army Routine Order, issued by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya. As at present, the full salary and allowances are paid only to those Army personnel killed in action and those sustained severe injuries while fighting and also for those who proceeded on retirement on medical grounds. 

  • After Absence of 30 Years, Jaffna -“ Pooneryn Boat Service Resumed

    THE day-to-day life which was crippled due to terrorism in the North and East is normal today. So, there is rapid development taking place in different fields in those areas. In parallel with those developments, a new boat service was launched between Maninthalai Jetty in Pooneryn and Kolombuthurai Jetty in Jaffna on Sunday (13) during a brief ceremony after renovation of those Jetties. 

  • Jaffna-based Army Personnel Respond to SOS for Blood

    FOLLOWING a request made by Director, Jaffna Teaching Hospital, 51 Division troops in the Jaffna peninsula recently organized a blood donation campaign since blood was urgently needed to treat patients in hospital.  A large number of officers and other ranks immediately volunteered and donated blood in response to the urgent request of the hospital. Scarcity in the Jaffna Blood Bank prompted the Hospital Director to turn to the Army for help.

  • All Set to Mark National Victory Day Celebrations

    PRESIDENT, "Ranaviru Seva Authority", Ms. Padma Wettewa told the media at a news briefing on Monday (14) at the Media Center for National Security (MCNS) that the postponed National Victory Day Celebrations due to inclement weather will now be held on Friday, June 18th at 0800 hours at the Galle Face Green, Colombo. The "War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony" at the War Memorial, Parliament Grounds will also be held, the same day, 18th June at 1600 hours.

  • Tri Service War Heroes Having own Lands to Receive MoD Seva Vanitha Homes

    THE Seva Vanitha Branch at Ministry of Defence (MoD), engaged in construction of 700 new homes to War Heroes and their families across the island, handed over one more newly-built home under the scheme at Rukmalgama, Kottawa to the beneficiaries during a brief ceremony on Tuesday (15). The 700 House Construction scheme, initiated by Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, President, Seva Vanitha Branch, Ministry of Defence (MoD), as her wing’s newest brainchild, enables War Heroes, possessing their own plots of land across the country to receive this housing bonanza, through the MoD Seva Vanitha Branch.
