Jaffna-based Army Personnel Respond to SOS for Blood

FOLLOWING a request made by Director, Jaffna Teaching Hospital, 51 Division troops in the Jaffna peninsula recently organized a blood donation campaign since blood was urgently needed to treat patients in hospital.

A large number of officers and other ranks immediately volunteered and donated blood in response to the urgent request of the hospital. Scarcity in the Jaffna Blood Bank prompted the Hospital Director to turn to the Army for help.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya during his recent visit to the peninsula emphasized the Army’s need to promote reconciliatory and goodwill gestures for the benefit of the peninsula’s denizens.

Hospital Director thanked the 51 Division General Officer Commanding for his swift action on the humanitarian need and the concern, shown by Army personnel towards hospital inmates.

51 Division in the past several months donated blood to the hospital at the request of its Director.
