  • COLOMBO NATIONAL HOSPITAL CHEST PHYSICIAN ATTENDS TO GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA

    THE Army in response to concerns, expressed on General Sarath Fonseka’s health condition made arrangements Monday (5) morning  for him to receive consultations from a Senior Chest Physician, attached to the Chest Clinic, Colombo National Hospital in the presence of Medical Officers in attendance at Navy Headquarters where General Fonseka is detained. The move was initiated following allegations being made by Mrs Anoma Fonseka and other spokespersons, referring to an alleged ‘deterioration’ of General Fonseka’s health.

  • Plans Afoot to Increase Army's UN Mission Quota to 5000, says Commander

    “PLANS to increase the Army’s UN Peace Keeping Mission contingent quota to 5000, from its present 900 in number at one given time are underway on a directive given by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa once a proper estimate on related multiple technical needs, associated with such an increase is complete. Our troops will remain prepared to leave at short notice, no sooner than the UN green light is given,” so said Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army during a brief address he made at Mankulam Task Force-3 Headquarters, this morning (5). 

  • KDU 2010 Intake: Closing Date for Applications April 9

    THE closing date for the applications for the General Sir John Kotalawela Defence University (KDU) intake 2010 is on April 9. KDU Vice Chancellor Major General Milinda Pieris invited university qualified sporty and healthy youth to join the University Grants Commission approved KDU to qualify to become intelligent, highly capable and motivated officers of the armed forces of Sri Lanka while being a graduand.

  • BOTH COURTS MARTIAL AGAINST GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA ADJOURNED

    THE two Courts Martial at Navy Headquarters, designed to hear charges against General Sarath Fonseka adjourned their sittings on Tuesday (6). The first Court Martial, presided by Major General H.L Weerathunga was to try General Fonseka on charges against his participation in political work while in active service after its maiden sittings on March 16th was adjourned until today (6). Major General A.L.R Wijethunga and Major General D.R.A.B Jayathilake are serving as other members. The sittings are to resume on 5th May 2010.

  • Army Chief Extends New Year Greetings among North Based Soldiers

    LIEUTENANT General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, continuing his second leg of the tour in the northern region on Tuesday (6) visited Welioya Area Headquarters, 59 Division Headquarters, 591 Brigade Headquarters, Task Force-2 Headquarters, 68 Division Headquarters and the Advanced Infantry Platoon Training School (AIPT) at Muthiyankattu where the visiting Army Chief took time off to interact separately with soldiers serving those areas. 

  • NATIONAL HOSPITAL CHEST PHYSICIAN RE-EXAMINES GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA

    THE SAME senior Chest Physician at Chest Clinic Colombo National Hospital, for the second time conducted a thorough re-examination on General Sarath Fonseka this afternoon (7) using special medical tools, meant for special test on patients. The specialist who earlier also examined General Sarath Fonseka two days ago has re-confirmed that General Fonseka continues to be in good health and does not manifest any deterioration in his health.

  • Service Corps Boxer Emerges Winner

    THE INTER Regiment Army Boxing Tournament, an enthusiastic annual event among both Army officers and soldiers alike got underway at Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium during March 29, 30 and 31. Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, recording 28 points emerged victorious in the final tournament and 2nd and 3rd places went to Gajaba Regiment (20 points) and Sri Lanka Artillery boxers (17 points) respectively. Gunner R.M.R.G Ratnayake, Sri Lanka Artillery was adjudged the Best Boxer.
