  • 612 Troops Donate Blood to Mark Sambuddathwa Jayanthi Vesak Festival


    A special blood donation campaign to coincide with the 2600th Sambuddathwa Jayanthi commemoration and Vesak was held at Naddankandal, Vavunikulam on Thursday (19) on an initiative taken by 612 Brigade troops serving the area. More than one hundred soldiers at the 612 Brigade Headquarters complex lined up this morning (19) and donated blood to the medical staff, arrived there from the Anuradhapura General Hospital.
  • Ranaviru Month (May 19 - June 19) Inaugurated

  • Northern & Wanni Civilians Join Troops Celebrating Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Vesak Commemoration

    Island-wide Army formations, sharing their religious sentiments with the rest of the country, conducted a series of Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Vesak celebrations with the participation of troops and the general public. Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna on the instructions of its Commander, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, organized a mammoth Sil campaign with attendance of over 1400 Army personnel serving the peninsula.
  • Commander Places Relic Casket & Opens Matara Vesak Zone

    ‘Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Vesak Zone’ that covers Matara Bodhiya precincts and the Uyanwatta Sanath Jayasuriya ground is to formally culminate the week-long commemorative events in the country on Saturday (21) with the conduct of Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Perehara in Matara. HE the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Hon Prime Minister, Ministers and a host of other invitees are expected to grace the final phase of the 2600th Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi ceremonies.....

     

  • More SLAC War Heroes Honoured Awarding North -“ East Humanitarian Operation Medal

    One more segment of the brave officers and soldiers, belonging to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) was decorated on Friday (20) for their exceptional roles during humanitarian operations in the North and East before LTTE terrorism was wiped out. President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces inaugurated the award of the same ‘North-East Humanitarian Operation Medal’ on 14th December 2010 where a representative 1000 War Heroes of the tri-services.....
  • Expatriate Offers his Land & Builds New House to Disable War Hero at SVAB Request

     
    To coincide with the ongoing ‘Ranaviru’ month (May 19-June 19), a newly-built complete house, a donation made by Switzerland-based Mr. Lasantha Gunawardane in memory of his late father and in order to invoke blessings on his mother, was symbolically handed over to the disable War Hero, Sergeant K.P. Sugath of 9 Gemunu Watch (9 GW) during a brief ceremony in Elpitiya area.

    Preparations for the international seminar, ‘Defeating Terrorism - The Sri Lanka Experience’ (May 31 - June 2’ 2011) that shares Sri Lanka’s experience on the road to military defeat of the LTTE, the world’s most ruthless terrorist organization, are now being finalized, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya told a media conference at Army Headquarters Monday (23) evening.
