  • Secretary Defence Shows Keen Interest Visiting Army Stalls

    On the eve of the National Independence Day ceremony at Kataragama, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, now in Kataragama, took time off to visit the Buttala ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition site Thursday (3) afternoon, hours before its formal opening. Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy Commanders, Inspector General of Police and senior officers received the visiting Secretary Defence on arrival and conducted him to show around exhibition stalls that have been put up by Tri-services, Police and the Civil Defence Force.

  • HE Declares Open 'Deyata Kirula' National Development Exhibition in Buttala

    President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the 5th ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition at Buttala to coincide with the 63rd Independence Day Friday evening (4). It will be held until the 10th of this month. The exhibition spreading over 160 acres of land consists of hundreds of stalls of all government agencies, Security Forces and the private sector and is expected to attract over a million visitors. The stalls presented by the Security Forces covering an area of 16 acres are one of the main features of the exhibition.

    His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the architect of the ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition, now on at Buttala for the 5th consecutive year visited the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police exhibition stalls last evening (5) in the company of Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy Commanders.   • Army Search And Rescue Teams Work Round The Clock

    As devastating floods continue to wreak havoc in the Eastern, North Central, Wanni and Central provinces, more and more Army Search and Rescue teams, deployed in affected areas, are busy providing immediate relief with the coordination of District Secretaries, Navy, Air Force, Police and other relevant authorities. Those relief teams operating round the clock have so far rescued more than 1500 civilians, either trapped in the deluge or while being drifted down in gushing waters in the eastern province.
