President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the 5th ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition at Buttala to coincide with the 63rd Independence Day Friday evening (4). It will be held until the 10th of this month. The exhibition that spreads over 160 acres of land consisting of hundreds of stalls from all Government agencies, Security Forces and the private sector is expected to attract over a million visitors.
The stalls presented by the security forces spreading over an area of 16 acres are one of the main features of the exhibition. Tri-services, Police and Civil Defence Force, showcasing their own achievements and talents as well as arms and equipment captured from the LTTE, have set up separate stalls at the exhibition complex. A tri-service cultural pageant at the opening added more significance and colour to the exhibition.
The Exhibition is free of charge for school children. The adults can enter the exhibition premises by purchasing a development lottery ticket. The ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition is open for public from 9.00 am to midnight.
Meanwhile, issuing of new currency notes to the values of five thousand rupees, one thousand rupees, five hundred rupees, one hundred rupees, fifty rupees and twenty rupees by the Central Bank was held at the ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition premises and the new currency notes were presented to the President first. Subsequently the public were also given the opportunity to obtain the new currency notes from the Central Bank Stall at the exhibition.
Large number of Ministers, Ministry Secretaries, Tri-Service Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Director General Civil Defence Force, Government officials and distinguished guests accompanied the President at the occasion.
