  • Army's New Air Travel Wing Receives a Special Guest

    The Army-managed, ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’, temporarily housed at the Army Headquarters premises, received a surprise guest this morning (6). Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) made a surprise visit to the ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’, office Thursday (6) morning and  saw for themselves how the newly-established Army’s ticketing wing works and conducts its business transactions.

  • Army Ventures into Sale of Vegetables at Cost Price for Consumers

    Sri Lanka Army with the sole intention of providing consumers with fresh vegetables at unit cost price has embarked on a new project of distributing directly-purchased vegetables among the public sans any intermediaries in the market. This novel non-profit making scheme, on the directions of HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa commenced Friday (7) on the instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.....

  • Army Organizes Distribution of Wheelchairs & Artificial Limbs for Jaffna Civilians

    Nineteen differently-able civilians who needed attention and assistance of the society were recently provided wheelchairs and artificial limbs by the 511 Brigade at Achchuveli, Jaffna. During a brief ceremony, held at the Headquarters of 9th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry at Achchuveli, nine wheelchairs and ten artificial limbs were recently distributed among ten men and nine females. This donation, coordinated by the 511 Brigade was sponsored by “Centre for Handicapped”, a Kandy-based charity organization. 

  • Sri Lankan Troops Give Away Gift Parcels to Haiti Children

    Sri Lankan troops serving the UN Peace Keeping Missions (SRIBAT) marked Christmas by gifting parcels of clothes to underprivileged local populace in Haiti. On the Christmas night itself, 200 children and several adult families were treated to this Christmas treat during a special ceremony, organized by the SRIBAT headquarters in Leogane. Clothes produced in Sri Lanka were used for those gift parcels and Sri Lankan sweetmeats brought down particularly for this occasion were distributed among Haitians who participated in the Christmas bash.

    A state-of-the-art, ‘Lakviru Sevana’, Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera’s conceptual model for sale of varieties of products, crafted by disable War Heroes of Tri-services, saw its birth Monday (10) afternoon at Battaramulla, Pelawatte. His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces as Chief Guest on the occasion, declared open this long-felt requirement, the new ‘Lakviru Sevana’, amidst all the pomp and ceremony. This venue will showcase talents and skills of our disable War Heroes.

  • Army Responds to the Situation & Provides Relief

    Sri Lanka Army troops, swiftly responding to the ravaging flood catastrophe, have rescued more than 450 civilians, marooned or trapped in Polonnaruwa, Gravel Kanda, Pallakkadu, Thoppigala, Ampara, Vellaweli areas in the east and elsewhere with the use of Army boats and equipment. On the instructions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, General Officers Commanding in affected areas are implementing various prioritized flood relief roles, evaluating developments in worst-hit areas.
