The Army-managed, ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’, temporarily housed at the Army Headquarters premises, received a surprise guest this morning (6).
Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) made a surprise visit to the ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’, office Thursday (6) morning and saw for themselves how the newly-established Army’s ticketing wing works and conducts its business transactions.
Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, taking a keen interest in the operational aspect of the ticketing procedures and issue of electronic tickets to the travellers, made inquiries from the officers serving the outlet with a view to learning more of the formalities, connected to the industry.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, herself a former executive officer cum a ticketing officer in Sri Lankan Airlines for well over 20 years, too offered her professional know-how to the staff present at the same occasion in order to further enhance the quality of the services. She also shared her experiences in the industry with the working staff and gave further instructions to them as special expertise in this regard would certainly help further promote smooth function of the ticketing office since the demand is fast on the increase.
Lieutenant General Jayasuriya also shared a couple of views with the Army’s Director of Movement, Brigadier K Gunawardana and other senior officers who were behind in establishing this special ticketing office.
The Army opened its own travel ticketing office for business last December 23rd, fulfilling a long-felt need among Army personnel proceeding overseas for various courses, assignments, visits, etc.
The establishment of the Army ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’ by the Directorate of Movement, on directions given by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, enables all Tri-service and Police personnel to buy their air tickets at attractive fares.
However, ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’ is expected to move into a more spacious permanent building outside the Army Headquarters shortly expanding its services further to the general public as well.
Presently, all officers, other ranks and their families are able to buy their air tickets to any destination from this outlet at the Army Headquarters. ‘Air Travel Service (Pvt) Ltd’ expects to issue holiday packages to the public covering all destinations in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Latin America and the US.
Special pilgrimage packages to Buddhist places of interest in India (Dambadiva Tours) are also to be organized by this agency at affordable prices in the future.
