  • Indian-American Journalist Thrown Out of Pro-LTTE Meeting

    New York, Nov 21, (PTI): A veteran Indian-American journalist was reportedly thrown out of a pro-LTTE meeting held in New Jersey by the oragnisers, who called him ‘’an agent of Government of India and Sri Lanka.’’ Dr Prakash M Swamy, a senior journalist of New York and a United Nations accredited correspondent, was allegedly manhandled and pushed out of the venue yesterday after being invited to cover the event by the organisers, Association of Tamils of Sri Lanka in the USA and Ilankai Tamil Sangam.

  • Dr. Shanmugarajah Gives Evidence Before the LLRC: 'We Served Pregnant Mothers Even During Last Stages of War, no Mortality'

    Dr. V. Shanmugarajah, who worked as the Medical Superintendent of the District General Hospital in Mullaitivu during the war in Wanni (Sept. 2006 to May 15, 2009) appearing before the LLRC on November 18 at the Kadirgamar Institute of Foreign Relations said that he and the staff with support of the health volunteers had ensured that neither pregnant mothers nor their babies died during the last phase of the war in Wanni. He said that all medical supplies and medicine including antibiotics for children had been sent by the Government of Sri Lanka.....

  • 'Cormorant Strike' Underway: All Set for Amphibious Assault on Silavathurai Beaches

    ‘Exercise-Cormorants Strike’, the first joint security forces (Blue forces) exercise involving several thousand troops got underway Sunday (Nov. 21) evening with the SLAF inducting Special Forces and Commandos into enemy (Red forces) held area in the north-western region. The SLAF mission involved helicopters and Y 12 fixed wing aircraft in the aftermath of the Special Boat squadron (SBS) securing beaches ahead.....

  • Another Expatriate Shows Concern for War Heroes

    An expatriate, resident in Australia, Mr. Madhuka Abeykoon, was the latest to join the line of patriotic Sri Lankans in assisting disable War Heroes. Recently, following coordination done by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), an artificial limb, worth about Rs.135,000/= was donated  to a disable War Hero receiving rehabilitation at Rana Viru Sevana, Ragama. It was handed over to the beneficiary, Rifleman.....

    Minister of Plantations, Hon Mahinda Samarasinghe, minutes after he was sworn in as new Minister of Plantations for the second term, visited the Military Hospital Monday (22) mid-noon with the view to expressing his gratitude to recuperating War Heroes. This was the first official assignment of the Minister after he was re-sworn in as the new Minister of Plantations Monday (22) morning.

    A 50 newly constructed houses in Periyakulam, Kanagarayankulam were given away to the beneficiaries Saturday (20) morning by Minister of Industry & Commerce Mr. Rishad Baddiudeen after handing over the keys of the houses symbolically.
