New Minister Visits Recuperating War Heroes as His First Official Assignment

Minister of Plantations, Hon Mahinda Samarasinghe, minutes after he was sworn in as new Minister of Plantations for the second term, visited the Military Hospital Monday (22) mid-noon with the view to expressing his gratitude to recuperating War Heroes.

This was the first official assignment of the Minister after he was re-sworn in as the new Minister of Plantations Monday (22) morning.

The donation of fruits among War Heroes under treatment has been organized by the Ministry of Plantations, in cooperation with the Sri Lanka Tea Board, in connection with the assumption of office of President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the participation of the Commander of the Army. 

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, accompanied by Medical Advisor Major General S.H. Munasinghe, Director Medical Services, Brigadier K.P. Sumanapala and a few senior officers received the visiting Minister and his officials at the entrance to the hospital complex. 

 Minister Samarasinghe along with his members of the ministerial staff handed over those fruit parcels to all 500 inmates in this hospital and took time off to share a couple of views with recuperating War Heroes. 119 more patients receiving treatment at the Narahenpita Military Hospital also received those fruit parcels during the latter part of the day’s programme.

 Secretary to Ministry of Plantations Ms Malini Peiris, Additional  Secretary G.G.W. Jayawardena, Director General Sri Lanka Tea Board, H.D. Hemaratne, acting Tea Commissioner E.A.J.K. Edirisinghe, Assistant Director General, S.I.C. Perera and several Sri Lanka Tea Board officials attended the occasion.
