  • State Minister of Defence Shares Views with Troops in Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Wanni & Trincomalee During His First Visit



    The second-day programme of the State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene's first formal visit to the North in his ministerial capacity after assumption of office, began in Kilinochchi on Saturday (7), together with defence chiefs where he spoke to a cross section of the troops and assured them of continued enhancement of welfare facilities and provision of all requirements for their duties.
     
  • UN Force Commander in Haiti Condoles on Death of Warrant Officer II


    The Military Public Information Office of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) in a special announcement, issued on Feb 5 condoles on the sudden demise of Warrant Officer II, A.P.S Pushpakumara RSP USP on January 29 following a cardiac arrest while serving Haiti. “Our peacekeeping military family has lost a valuable member of the team and wishes to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family of Warrant Officer Pushpakumara,”
  • Retired Army Personnel in the East Provided Medical Help


    Troops of the 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), 8 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) and 27 SLNG recently organized several“Shramadana” campaigns to clean the Serunuwara Hospital premises and assisted reconstruction of the road in Sandiweli area. At the same time, troops of the 27 SLNG  distributed lunch packets for the inmates at the Ichchalanpaththu Hospital in Trincomalee area on Tuesday(03).

  • Two Flood-Affected Families Get Help


    Non-Commissioned Officers’ Training School (NCOTS) at Kalaoya offered their assistance to two families, affected by recent floods in Kalaoya area. The NCOTS gave a packet of dry-rations separately to both families. Troops of the NCOTS together with other military establishments continuously supported rescue and relief operations during the floods.
     
     
  • 9th Army Contingent Leaves for Lebanon on UN Peace Keeping

     
     
    The 9th Sri Lanka Army contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is to replace the serving 8th contingent for Force Protection duties in Lebanon shortly. The 9th Sri Lanka’s Force Protection Unit (9 SLFPU), now ready for overseas deployment, consisted of 10 officers and 140 other rankers.....
     
  • Jaffna Soldiers Fund Award of Schols to Low-Income Group Students


    Both Officers and soldiers of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with the noble intention of giving a helping hand to the promotion of education among students of low-income groups in the peninsula, generously supported an SFHQ-J initiated scholarship programme for 418 selected students after voluntarily donating cash.
